Saudi Arabia: Expat wife arrives first:

hmmm....you'll be surprised how difficult it is for women to get around because you can't drive. It depends what city you're in, if your in Al Khobar, or Jeddah things would be easier, if your in Al Ahsa or Jubail it's alot tougher. If you are not living in a compound where you work than life will be quite tough. If you work for Saudi Aramco, life will be quite good.

Saudi Arabia: offer:

I have lived here for 6 years and I'm from Calgary. Cost of living is low, gas is about 20 cents per liter, car insurance on a vehicle is between $100 to $300 per year, auto repair is inexpensive. Finding a vehicle is not a difficult process, There is no sales or income tax so you pay the price on the sticker. Food is inexpensive. The cost of accomodation varies, but you won't pay more than you're paying back home. Bear in mind that women can't drive so it can often be somewhat inconvenient. Remember that Saudi is a developing country, you won't generally find McDonald's like efficiency here. However on a positive note, there's a Tim Hortons in Rashid Mall in Al Khobar, which is really nice place to go for a Timmy's coffee and donut. Hofuf is an OK place, it about 2 hours drive from Al Khobar/Dammam and Bahrain is still within driving distance.
