Jamaica: Kindergarten:

Montego Bay have several pre-schools some that come to mind are: Mt. Alvernia Prep, which is a catholic school located right in the heart of the city or close to the hip strip or city centre, there is The Heinz Simonitsch School located in the HalfMoon Plaza in Rose Hall, Montego Bay Christian Academy located in Brandon Hill which is about 5 min from downtown Montego Bay or at the top on Union Street, the rest of school are a bit outside the city like in Redding...I hope this helps...you can search online for the schools and see if you get a contact number for each and call for further information...but MontegoBay have a lot of school for 3yr olds...

Jamaica: School websites:

Most of the school in Mobay have no website..No even the most prestigious private or prep school...if you need some names of the school then maybe I can help with the names and the phone numbers so you can contact them directly

Jamaica: Where do I start?:

I take it that you will not be living with your mother since you stated that you need to sell everything to save up for rent until you find a job. First of all, where in Jamaica are you planning to move to. Finding a job in the Hotel Industry will be quite easy for you because of your experience and there are alot of Hotels being built. There are also plenty of good private school for your twins. If you are a citizen of the US then you can travel back and forth if you get home sick. From Miami or Ft. Lauderdale it's only about an hour and a half flight. I think you should first take a visit to see your mom before you decide to pack up and move. Stay a month or so to get your feet wet and in that time travel the island and see where you might want to relocate and enquire about jobs..

Jamaica: Private Schools in Mo-Bay:

There are plenty of private schools in Mo-bay starting at 300US to about 700US per term with book and uniforms extra. All schools in Jamaica wear uniforms the color depending on the school. Boys generally wear khaki. High school starts at the 7th grade in Jamaica and they have all girls high school and all boys high school which are also private. The public schools I wouldn't attend. My advise is to take your kids along with you when you visit the different schools. Schools are out for summer break usually the first week in July and starts back the first week in Sept. I think your final decission might be based on price and location..

Jamaica: Finding land in MoBay to purchase:

Jamaican real estate is just like in the US. Location, Location...And you will pay big for location..Pricing is dependant on your location. There are lots of real estate agents in Mo-Bay that can help you find land. www.cbjamaica.com which is the website for coldwel banker. Word of mouth is the best way depending on where in Mobay you are looking to buy land.

Jamaica: Moving and Working in Jamaica:

The only website I know of is www.splashjamaica.com it give current job opening across the island as well as the Caribbean and you can post your resume as well. Maybe www.go-jamaica.com has information as well. Hope that helps

Jamaica: Living in Montego Bay:

Hi there, I too moved to Mobay over the summer. I am from Jamaica but not Montego Bay. I lived in the US since I was little. I'm re-discovering Jamaica and getting use to how thing work here. You can e-mail me at blessedluv30@yahoo.com and we can get together and I'll show you what little places I know. My name is Carol.

Jamaica: credit issues:

Credit works a little different here. There's no Credit Bureau or reporting agency. Everything in the states is tied to your social security card. In jamaica one does not have such a document. Its more buy here pay here type credit or bank loans or car loans through the bank or bank credit cards which the interest are high on anything credited here.

Jamaica: good schools in the montego bay area:

Just recently move to Montego Bay from the US and I have 2 daughters 8 and 12. I'll like any info on good private schools in the Mobay area. Any information on any activities would also help.. like tennis lessons or swimming lessons anything the kids can do afterschool.. I think I just about use to the traffic now... I just have to get use to the long lines and how slow everyone is in the bank.. Customer Service is quite laking here.. but otherwise i love it her...

Jamaica: cost of living in Jamaica:

I just moved to Jamaica last summer and find the cost of living about what you would find in Spain. I lvied in Spain for about 2 years.. I guess it depends where in Jamaica you plan to move. I live in Montego Bay and the rent is based on where you live. I live in Brandon Hill which is in walking distance to downtown and the beaches. My rent for a new 2bedroom apartment is 900us a month and the apartment comes with dishwasher, stove, fridge, microvave, ac all the standard stuff like the us apt. would have and it about 1200 sq ft. its pretty roomy. food is inexpensive if you cut out all the imported items. Motor vehicle is expensive because of the duty on it. housekeeper is less than a 100us a week. private school can range in price from school to school. My daughter's school is about 600us per term. Your biggest expense is where you live and what you drive... the rest is up to you.. anymore help you can e-mail me at blessedluv30@yahoo.com
