France: USA -> France freelancing question:

Hi all, I'm currently living in Germany and am in the process of getting a Freelancers' Visa here. I'll be here doing this for a total of 8 months, and next year, I'd like to do the same in France (i.e., stay 8 months and work). I work as a computer programmer and journalist, exclusively for US companies. I'm trying to figure out what I need to freelance/live there, and am currently a bit confused. I've read that one can get a visiteur visa and then sign up to be an autoentrepreneur upon arrival. If I do this, can I start working upon arrival? What will I need to do in terms of health insurance? Presumably I'll need some kind of international coverage until I'm officially self-employed? Or is it possible to get state insurance as a visiteur without official work allowance? I've read elsewhere that for situations like mine, where all the work and payments are happening in another country via the internet, they're somewhat lenient for folks who work without official work allowance. Is this okay to do? Or is it more in the illegal albeit easy to get away with category? One other small note: I'll be enrolling in language classes while I'm in France, with the intention of becoming fluent. Thanks in advance!
