Philippines: Practical expat income options for a simple life?:
Most filipinos survive on making a little money and a little money there but having a steady income is a hole different ballgame. Do they have internet on your island and is it reliable, is the power even reliable?
Philippines: leaving phils for 1st time:
This subject was discussed recently and the consensus of opinion was that this could quite likely happen and is not uncommon.
Philippines: US credit bureau issues:
I doubt if your score will be of any use in the Philippines so probably not worth worrying about.
Philippines: Filipina wife of 20 years dies:
The land owner just turns around and says they have no money, then what do you do.
Philippines: Living in/around Calbayog City:
I believe that both southern Samar and southern Layte can be a bit wild west.
Philippines: Booking a flight:
Just a warning about check-in luggage on US flights. If you need an internal flight once arriving in Manila. The internal flight is the luggage restriction not the US flight.
Philippines: any advices on driving!:
Do you intend to learn to drive before you go to the Philippines or once you get there. Who's going to supply the car. If it's only occassional driving it would be less expensive to hire a car and driver as needed.
Philippines: Philhealth:
Unfortunately Philhealth still looks by far the cheapest option for anyone over the age of 65. Private healthcare companies really ramp up the costs over that age even if they will cover you at all.
Philippines: Coal Power Plants:
First I'd heard of coal mining in Bataan. 75% of the coal used in the Philippines is imported. The bulk of the local coal in mined on the island of Semirara down near Cebu. There is an abandoned nuclear plant in Bataan that they are talking about resurrecting, now that would be a greater concern.
Philippines: Insulin availability?:
I'm not insulin dependant but it is avaible in the Philippines although I suspect not widespread. I have heard that it is very expensive.
