Brazil: Where do you live?:

Thank you Margaret for your obvious advertisement for your immigration business. Think your comments reflect your need to find new business ? I think so. Every single post you do is pushing your business and your fellow associates. Business a little down these days ? I bet it is. My point exactly is that Brasil is a mess right now, no jobs, in a bad recession and the usual high crime. The other point is that some foreigners think they are geniuses that have something Brasil needs. Like I stated before, Brasilians may be arrogant and dishonest BUT they are excellent mechanics, technicians and don't need some gringo to show them how to wire a car. They would just laugh before they ignored him. Not to mention that this guy doesn't speak a word of Portuguese. Recipe for total failure. Anybody who thinks moving to Brasil under the current conditions have NO clue to living in a foreign country and will be running home within a year broke and disappointed. I didn't expect Brasil to be like the US but I did expect not to be robbed, cheated nor to encounter the most arrogant and ignorant people anywhere. Most honest people who have been to Brasil will tell you this is the truth about the country. Ever wonder why there are few foreigners in Brasil these days ? DUH>>>>> Figure it out.

Brazil: Also moving to floripa with my wife from ipatinga:

Turtle I lived in Camboriu SC for 3 years 2002-2005, love the area and Floripa. Great place to live. I ended up marrying a sweet woman from near Recife in the NE. She has visited Camboriu too and loves it too. Warning; Brasilian women WANT to stay near Mama and her family, period. I think I could convince my wife to move to the south of BR , better than moving back to the US. 2 hour flight vs 8 hour Sao Paulo is HUGE with custom cars of all kinds, HUGE. That is your market. Other places not far from Floripa where interesting cars are hot ; Curitiba (great city), Porto Alegre RS, Floripa is right in the middle of these. Lot of antique custom cars. Try marketing in BR and exporting elsewhere. TRY to do it yourself without hiring anyone because 'employees' in BR can cost you dearly. You will learn Portuguese like I did, on the street. I'm not very grammatically correct but people understand me. At 3 years part time, my brain all of the sudden caught up to listening and understanding Portuguese. Now I can understand most everything I hear. I'D surely FORGET bringing most STUFF from the US. It's NOT worth it and you will find household and furniture in BR a LOT MORE exciting than ANY furniture you have in the US AND surrounding yourself with things from BR will make your life more exciting. Bring your clothes and dearly loved tiny stuff and sell the rest or donate it to charity. CARS ; easy to buy. All you need is a CPF and an address. I always bought my cars (6 of them) in SP. Best selection of everything, cheaper too. Lots of competition. You can buy something dependable for as little as R$4000, beaters for R$2500. So many great cars you've never seen in the US. I like FIATS myself, good resale and real durable. Many 1.0 liter twin cam 4 cylinders. Palio Weekend, Brava, Stilio etc. BIG cities generally have nice marinas ; RIO, SP coast, Floripa has a nice one just south of the airport. Can be clickish with upper middle class types. Big raceboats most likely central SP. Hard to break into any area of your expertise because Brasilians are very smart and high tech in the things you do. Brasil is thought of 3rd world by many but BR is as up on all things as any place and sometimes ahead. You can buy an internet USB modem from various providers ; TIM, OI and others and do month to month. Not super fast but ok. Never had cable internet so don't know anything about it. Living online might be expensive but casual internet won't be so bad. There are many job websites in BR, your wife can search them. Floripa is a college town, has a lot of BR tourism. Usual places to buy things online ; Cars, furniture, real estate, household, etc - OLX.com.br , MercadoLivre.com.br Some areas have craigslist Be VERY careful with who you trust, your wife can hopefully keep you out of trouble Do everything legally through the cartorio. Good luck, GUY

Brazil: moving to northeast Brazil:

Joao Pessoa is a very nice and calm city. I lived there from 2004 to 2007 and would again. Real estate did take off after I left but I think it's falling back a little now. Lots of good options for granjas and land. JP has my vote

Brazil: Construction Management jobs:

Must be a lot of job websites down there where you are from. Also try GRINGOES.COM , lot of expat stuff on there, jobs too

Brazil: Retiral Visa:

Not much info Where are you coming from ? WHY do you want to live in Brasil ? Did you know Brasil is in a recession now, zero jobs. Do you need to work or can you live off your retirement ? How much ? Do you meet their income requirements ? Have you lived in BR in the past ? When ? Where ? Where do you plan to live ? IF YOU know your way around Brasil I suggest you grab all your paperwork / and have someone at home that can forward anything else you might need .... go rent an apt in the area where you want to live / month to month. Then go to the nearest Federal Police office of immigration and apply there. They really sped up the process back in 2015, got my perm visa in 3 months.

Canada: moving to Victoria?:

WHY don't you 2 guys get married ! AND BY THE WAY, this forum is not designed to arguing about your opinions. YOU sound like a pair of PANZIES. MUST BE BRITS GET A LIFE OR GET A HOBBY .... THE REST OF US ARE NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR OPINIONS. SHUT UP !

Canada: New bee:

TRY looking on the usual job postings on ; craigslist Toronto, Indeed.com, Monster.com, or look for more job websites online.

Brazil: Marrying a Brazilian in UK - my options?:

Cant help you with anything to do with the UK, would think it's expensive to live there unless you have a great job or skills. How was it you were illegal in BR ? Did the Federal Police figure that out ? Did you just overstay your tourist visa ? Believe you can do that and pay a fine. Not sure if that would affect your ability to get a perm visa. You'd have to ask the FP about that. Your wife can visit their website and see. I am married to a Brasilian, we got married in Recife in 2005. You can immediately apply for a perm visa and work visa in Brasil. The Federal Police have a new expedited visa process now, only takes a few months. You can get married in BR and then go to the FP and apply. Probably need to prove some long term relationship. Only problem with the perm visa is that you cannot be OUT of BR for more than 2 years or it cancels itself. Think that once you have your perm visa for 5 years you can apply for citizenship. Again you have to state that you plan to live in Br long term.

Brazil: permanent visa still on process:

Which visa are you talking about ? Perm visa based on marriage or a business visa ? Maybe the business visa takes longer. I don't see why not as long as you have a current visa to get back in such as a tourist visa or are from a country where no visa is required. I would not be gone for a long period of time because years ago I left and came back and the FP could not find me and cancelled my perm visa. Process now is a lot cleaner and faster, I got mine in 2015 within 2 months, BUT I had one years before that so I was already in the system. The new perm visa program is really amazingly fast now. In the past (2005) it took me over a year.

Brazil: Permanent Visa Investors Process:

Suggest you find a member of the Federal Police where you live to help you. They can process it and make things go faster. Maybe someone you know has contacts. Basically you put together a plan for your business and submit it to the FP. They send it to Brasilia and it either gets approved or not. Believe you need something like US $10,000 in the bank to show you are serious. Mine took about 6 months I don't know what kind of a business you are trying to open but you have to realize Brasil is IN a recession right now and not coming out of it tomorrow. Everybody is broke. Might have luck with something like an ice cream store or a sandwich shop (like Subway) Not much going on with tourism and that area is saturated anyway by locals. Teaching English won't work either because there are schools on every corner. If your goal is to live in Brasil long term just find yourself a nice woman, lot easier. A book could be written about that subject alone.
