Ecuador Welcome Forum: Retiring in Banos, Ecuador:

Sinegoo, after a year of research, planning and correcting many mistakes, I made it. I'm initially in Olon. Had my first breakfast on the beach, feet literally in the sand. 2 cups of strong strong cafe' (made it myself, of course) banana, and two fluffy sweet tolls. 75 cents, not bad for the beach, but I can't scrimp on everything. I hope to remain in contact with you over the next few years. Andrew

Also a great facilitator is Susan, on this forum. She also works with a very good attorney, Dana Cameron. Just an additional resource.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: US address:

I went in person to my nearest SSA field office asking about direct deposit to Ec. and they advised there was no provision to do that. If you did that, please explain step by step how to do it. Can it be done from there? I an arriving Ec (GYE). Direct deposit to Ec would change my world there.

Ecuador: A Trump USA:

I have been planning this move for just over a year. I will be there next week! If political refugees start pouring in, I will be the first in line to help raise the drawbridge. The US is in trouble, but it has been for 16 years, not because of an election. The Ec. should be a retirement paradise, not a place for political refugees. Ec. has it's own issues, luckily, most of them are far more noble than the issues rushing the US.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Occupational therapy:

First, contact your closest Ec. Consulate. they are universally very helpful and can give you tons of accurate info. The one in Atlanta is exceptional. Try to contact Consulate General Juan Arcos. He is an amazing man!

What balance?

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Cigars?:

Cuban cigars are no better than Dominican or H0nduran, but the C Cigars get a lot of unwarranted valuation because for 60 years they have been the 'forbidden fruit', and therefore in much greater demand. It is true that 'factory throwouts' made in the US are generally less than $1 each, and many of them are of fine quality. Even if you pay an import duty, still a good deal.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Hot Water / Calefon:

Propane tankless RV hot water heaters, one per appliance are almost a dime a dozen in the US. Why not import several, pay the customs duties, and install them?

Ecuador Welcome Forum: getting around:

Over the years I have seen Gringos (Ugly Americans) all over Europe and SA renting cars in strange lands, thereby increasing their stress, losing much of the freedom of relaxation, I think it is either huge Ego, or failure to understand where they are. They are most likely the ones who will stay in the Downtown Holiday Inn in London, the Hilton in Isla Margarita. It's just misplaced old habits, in many cases. for the price of a cr and driver, frequently much less than a cr rental, you get, in addition to the relaxation, you get the interpreter, guide, body guard, local shopper, and local color, plus an invaluable crash course in the culture. Some Gringos can do this, others can't let go. They lose a lot of the value of the trip. Overall I'd say that renting a car, eating at an American fast food place, staying at the Hilton, severely limits the entire adventure, but it is safe, secure and retrenched in the American dream.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: ISLAND ESTATES:
