Colombia: For a 90-180 day trip what would you absolutely bring to COL:

I have been getting duplicates for a week and it's driving me crazy.

Colombia: Elderly patents & adult children:

In my experience the elderly are cared for by family members because there are usually enough close by or the parents move in with the children. Of course this may be more difficult in the larger cities with people living farther apart. The children are usually not asked for a percentage but to help out with the bills

Colombia: Can you drink the water in Colombia:

Your friendly troll here. I agree about those stinking buses. In all of my years living in/visiting Popayan I have never had a problem with the water. Of course to be safe use a filter and it does make the water taste better.

Colombia: Tragic landslide, southwest Colombia:

The latest report from Mocoa, Putumayo is 154 killed and 220 missing. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of this terrible tragedy.

Colombia: Expats who returned to US or Canada:

I might have gone a little overboard too!

Colombia: Best health insurance?:

Do most of you expats (over 65 years of age) living full time in Colombia, with Colombian health insurance, also keep their Medicare ins. in the US? I ask because I am concerned that if I decide to return to the US to live, I will have to pay a penalty of 10% extra per year if I do not continue to pay my Medicare premiums ( a very unfair penalty for someone who has payed into the system for years ).

Colombia: Bank account:

Is the money in Colombian bank accounts insured by the government, as it is in the USA?

Colombia: Colombians driving:

Has anyone tried to drive in Miami. I've been here 17 years and it is the worst drivers in the US are here.

Colombia: Manana Time in Colombia: How it Works:

I have lived in and traveled to Colombia many times since 1974 when I was in the peace corps outside of Popayan. I can tell you that nothing has changed in regard to the manana attitude in Colombia and all of Latin America. So if you are going to live here just take a deep breath, sit back and enjoy the show. Oh, also you need to become a little more aggresive and push to the front of the line as the natives do!

Colombia: hola que mas from el Cauca:

HI LUNA. I HAVE LIVED AND WORKED IN POPAYAN IN THE PAST AND LOVE THE CITY, DESPITE THE TRAFFIC NOW (THAT'S PROGRESS I GUESS). I AM RETIRED NOW AND PLANNING ON MOVING TO POPAYAN SOON, WITH MY HUSBAND WHO IS FROM POPAYAN. I AM GLAD TO KNOW THAT THERE IS ANOTHER EXPAT LIVING THERE, SINCE MOST AMERICANS THAT YOU SEE IN POPAYAN ARE ONLY PASSING THROUGH. I AM TAKING A TRUCKLOAD OF BOOKS AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE THEM WITH YOU. I HEARD THAT THERE IS A HOSTEL IN THE CENTER OF TOWN RUN BY A SCOTTISH MAN AND THEY HAVE BOOKS THERE. ALSO HAVE YOU TRIED THE BOOK SALE BY THE BRIDGE?
