Ecuador Welcome Forum: Retiring in Banos, Ecuador:
Hi,
I will be moving to Banos in December as well. Planning on renting. I agree with the other writers about not buying in the valley, however, I believe there are areas outside of the "active zone" if there were a big eruption. There has been activity on and off for quite awhile, but no forced evacuations in quite awhile, I believe 2007. Someone correct me if Im wrong on the year. It is a wonderful, safe town. Really beautiful and the people are very friendly. The buses coming to Banos typically stop in Ambato and depending on the bus driver it can be a few minutes to 10-20 minutes. I have used Amazonia as well for travel between Banos and quito and Cuenca. Most hostels/hotels have a driver they use or can recommend for an airport pick up, note it can be up to 3 hours one way depending on traffic in Quito and weather. I had a good driver named Miguel who lives in Banos if you want his contact info.
Best of Luck!
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Occupational therapy:
Hi,
I am in the middle of the same process. there are a few blogs about the process as well. Mainly it will depend on what type of visa you are applying for, but with a bachelors degree or higher in OT you can apply for a professional visa. There is a lot of paperwork you need to obtain in the US, have it apostilled in your State Department, including your licenses, diploma and possibly transcripts depending on the University, and a FBI background check and a state background check required. The FBI background check can take up to several months, or you can use a service online to expedite the process. Then, you will need to have some of these forms translated and notarized in Ecuador. And will need to have your diploma verified by Seneyt. I will be visiting their office in Quito in December to have my diploma verified. I can let you know how long the verification process takes, but I have heard about 2 weeks.
Good Luck!
Ecuador: Occupational Therapy:
Hi, I am also a US based occupational therapist researchig similar ideas. It has been difficult to find this information. There is a large need for therapists in Ecuador. Most of the available therapy services are non profit foundations geared toward Ecuadorians. I have seen a few clinics geared toward sensory integration, prosthetics and pediatric disabilities. Most are operated by therapists and rely on volunteers. If you have a need for assistance I would love to get involved. Sincerely, Jen
Ecuador: Are There New Permanent Residency Requirements?:
Hi,
Newer here to posting but I have been dealing with the Ministerio since January to extend my tourist visa. The new law only allows a 90 day extension. They also require a online background check which is found at Ministerio del Interior Ecuador certificado de Antecedents Penale. Then you are permitted to apply for another temporary visa which is good for two years, but you must meet all of their requirements. Also note that the initial two tourist visas do not count toward your 21 month requirement to apply for residency. Hope this helps.
