Panama: Yellow Fever certificate advice:
Hi Darren, I am also a U.K. Citizen. The injection is free on the NHS and I would advise it, especially when trotting around the tropics. Also anti malaria. Pity there is no needle to prevent Dengue fever. Had it twice. Nasty. Nhs direct can tell you what inoculations you need for each country you intend to visit or ask your Dr (if you can get an appointment.
Panama: Thinking about going to Cuba:
Yes, Cuba is poor. Deliberately made so by the US in retribution for having a different form of Government. I have a Cuban friend who loves his country very much and is hoping desperately too return soon.
Castro is dead, The Bay of Pigs will stand forever as a blight on the American name and will be held as a banner by all who oppose American might.
Despite all attempts. America failed to force this brave little country into submission. Time now for America to admit their shame and help Cuba grow to what it should be.
Cuba will always be a historic shame on the land of " free ". Time now for recompense.
Panama: 'Who's it' St Gib:
No thanks needed, but you are welcome.
Unfortunately the world has too many like this, driven by ignorance, envy and inner anger. Without who life would be so much better. Sad people.
Panama: CA Loonie vs USD:
Hold tight and wait a while or move with as little currency as you can. If possible set up an international currency account and only transfer minimums for a while. The USD is currently overvalued and Canada and Sterling undervalued. This will change, especially with Trump as top dog. His international interests suffer poor returns in the current climate. Holding an international account in Singapore or Hong Kong can also be a very favourable thing if you can open one.
Panama: Kidnapping in Panama:
Each and every country has elements of danger, here in the UK and all Europe we suffer things perceived as a danger by many. Mass demonstrations my Shariah Muslims are loud and aggressive, influx of immigrants of different cultures and values can cause some to be frightened. I myself have been in a hostage situation but my experience has not led me to tread with trepidation wherever I go, simply to be aware of my surroundings. I have visited some of the most intimidating places on this planet and when feeling insecure have simply become more alert. In Mexico a couple of police tried to rob me only to realize very quickly that I was not going to cow toe to them. I have walked the length and breadth of DD Ben St in Guyana and Boys Own Town without problem because of my awareness. I have got drunk in local rum bars in the Caribbean and in many other countries. To live in fear is a terrible thing and I really feel for those who do. The reality is if you are one of the unlucky minorities who suffer attack, you are still the minority.
Dress down, no jewelry and do not flash the cash are good and sensible rules, as are staying away from undesirable areas, what? you can't spot them? Home invasions are different, but if you live in an upmarket property with a flash car(s) with a lot of poor people around you will draw attention to yourself more so than 2 pence I have sort who live modestly and within the local community. I would always prefer to be 2 pence with local friends than flash the cash with everyone thinking I was worth much more
Panama: Poverty in Panama:
Jonnoyakker, your reply is exactly why the poverty exists and the complacency that goes with it. Mark ricobreeze is right on with his post and it is indeed time things were done about this. As expats living well in Panamanian lands some responsibilty should be taken by all
Panama: Criminal history background check:
Panama takes criminal records seriously and on a case by case basis. It is not a carte blanche no residency but a hurdle to cross.
Oscar 76 I doubt you are in any position to be judgmental and fully expect, if German law is the same as British that you have broken it, albeit unwittingly on numerous occasions. All western world police forces are little more than tax collecters behind attorney based wording such as "justification for an investigation" which does not mean an investigation has to be justified so much as have we someone in the frame who can pay for it. Then various acts come into play Conspiracy under common law. "Act or act likely to incite or enrage public morals or decencies whether or not the act is a crime". Then along comes the collecter. Confiscation act.
I know this I was held as the patsy to pay after a million pound trial. I fought back hard and vehemently and using their rules proved my entire income and outgoings to the last penny for a seven year period, becoming the only person to ever beat the act. Thus leaving me with a criminal record which was proven the hard way to be an incorrect sentence.
The UK currently has 47,000 in prison at any one time with an estimated 30% innocent.
So if I ever meet you and you start spouting in this way you are quite likely to find yourself in the middle of ww3.
The guy has a dwi this can be as little as a unit over. Too much red wine in his bouginon perhaps.
Judgemental attitudes without full facts can be very damaging to all concerned
Panama: Now I've seen everything:
Conspiracy under common law:
Act or acts triable by indictment, likely to upset or enrage public morals or decencies. Whether or not the act is a crime.
Scary isn't it.
Panama: Change of topic:
Old pro,
I have lived in England, Wales, Rwanda. Botswana, St Lucia, North China, South China, Hong Kong (where I met my wife).
I speak British English, Swahili, Cantonese, Mandarin, oohlong dialect and Welsh
My wife has lived in most areas of China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, England and Wales.
She speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, several dialects, ( there are around 47 different dialects in China) and English.
For the unknowing who wish to split hairs, Wales is a seperate country with its own culture and language.
I understand Old pros point about about newbies commenting, but I feel their input is also necessary and information more up to date whereas those who have resided for longer hold a wealth of information, although all is a little like Aesops blind men and the elephant
Panama: Tipping!:
Every country is like this Oscar, my wife is Chinese, never bothered changing her surname to mine as passport change to married to foreignnational is really not worth the time expense and effort. Andfor what? Is she your property?
