Ecuador Welcome Forum: New FBAR deadline:

Not sure what it is, but it's got to be better than FUBAR...

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Ecuador and Cuenca in particular:

Huge difference between Loja and Vilcabamba - English speaking gringos. Vilcabamba has a large expat community, Loja has virtually none. Something to keep in mind if your Spanish skills are limited.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Found cheap Quito flight route:

I believe it's $40.

Ecuador: Smart phones using nano SIM cards usable in Ecuador:

I got a nano SIM from Claro to use in my Droid Turbo while I'm here. Just load your time and data and you're good to go. BTW, be careful with data. Updates, etc. can burn through it pretty fast. I only use my Turbo for local calls.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Overnight stay in Quito:

My wife will be arriving at UIO in September and I will be going up from Vilcabamba to meet her. She gets in close to midnight and our flight to Loja leaves mid afternoon the next day. We would like to see a little bit of the city while there - maybe walk around for an hour or two in the morning before heading back to the airport. Can anyone familiar with Quito recommended a place to stay? By the time we travel to an hotel, get some sleep, get cleaned up, and eat we won't have much time to see much. Not being familiar with Quito I don't know if there is anything closer to the airport worth seeing or how far you have to travel to get to more historic or interesting sites. I'm also looking for something as economical as possible given that all we will do there is sleep and shower. Thanks.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Getting from Quito to Vilcabamba:

Hi folks, my name is Dan and I'm doing my initial trip down to check things out prior to relocating and I'm heading down to Vilcabamba. I'll be flying in on 8/2 and getting in around 11pm. So two things. First, any recommendations on the best way to make the trip down? I was originally planning on taking the bus to see some of the country, but sounds like a long ride with no rest stops. Looks like flights are running 80-90 bucks with all the taxes, etc. So for those of you that have made the trip, how do you usually like to get down there? Second, given that I'll be getting there in the dead of night, any ideas on a good overnight stay? Don't really think I'll be spending any time there when I get in, I'll be coming back up in mid September to escort my wife down and can check it out then. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks
