Philippines: Is Baguio a good place to live:
Don't live there but have visited many times.
As you probably know, Bagiou is cool so no need for air-conditioning, it's relatively safe i think. It rains a lot, there have been some landslides nearby in benguiet. Traffic can be a problem, especially at weekends. Session road is good at night restaurants, live music etc. The big problem i see it's on top of a mountain, and if you want a day on a beach you have to drive down that mountain.
I have only ever driven up and down on Kennon road which suffers from rock falls landslides, and extremely dangerous drivers, but its the quickest way up and down. I would not use public transport on that road. Last time we were there a bus crashed killing 23. Then a couple of weeks later a van crashed killing 9 or ten. Not sure if there is an immigration office there or not.
Would. Live there yes i would.
House prices and rents are a little higher. Fresh vegetables is relatively? cheap. Strawberry? farm sells cheap veg and great strawberry jam. Whenever i drive there i always seem to get lost haha. I think generally it's a very good place but not quiet many visitors like me but i like it.
Another cool place to live is Tagaytay, again get very busy weekend and holidays but has the advantage of no mountain to climb good beach resorts nearby, Manila or too far away again in town rents and house prices are expensive, but live 20 minutes outside it's much cheaper. Been there by motorcycle and cars many many times like Tagaytay a lot.
Philippines: Water Heater & washing machine:
LG Fuzzy Logic auto washing machine top loader been absolutely brilliant. Not as water efficient as front loaders but good machines. For water heaters ace hardware stock them at many different prices. We bought my in-laws a sharp 7.5kg twin tub for 7000 been very good as well.
Philippines: Real estate agent:
You are a foreigner, the agent will charge you a lot more than he would a Filipino. Personally i would not rush into buying here rent first then read the ass in old etc. For buying a condo. I think actually living in makati will drive you nuts after a while
Philippines: London attack:
Well they did it again. Really sad upset and very angry
UK needs a hard-line tough leader who is not scared of upsetting a few people.
Philippines: @ UK Expats - Official Mail and How to pls.:
If you are retired you pension can be paid direct to a Philippine bank account and you will still receive the yearly interest, the appropriate forms must be filled in along with your birth certificate, divorce papers if applicable, marraige certificate if applicable etc etc. Or keep your British bank account and set up a remittance company account, i use world remit sent yourself your pension each month. Not sure about income tax i don't pay it. If your driving lisence will expire soon just get it sent to a UK address and then sent on over here. Normal post takes two to three weeks to arrive if at all. Anything sensitive like debit and credit cards i would have sent by dhl or something similar. I don't have any mail so i never need anything sent as yet.
Just remember it takes a very long time to get here postal workers here have been known to open letters if they think there is something of value inside. It's not a secure system at all. Don't think i have been much help but i tried lol
Philippines: Business Opportunity for Folks with Contacts in Japan:
If it's an mlm based company 90% or more of new business members fail. Mlm is not a new miracle business scheme, it's hard work selling the product, and recruiting? new members
Philippines: Retiring soon:
Take the $1700 a month, will this have a yearly increase or is it fixed for ever?
That's over 85000 pesos per month but of course, four years from now costs will have risen a bit. I live on nearly half that. Unlike some we don't scrimp and scrape to live, we don't live like kings but we have a nice enough lifestyle. But i do get an increase every year. I would not sell your property at home, rent it out fully managed contract. Living here is way way different than just visiting here for a .month or two every year. You may love it here but you may also hate it here, i know several that went home after a few years here, it's not for everyone.,
If you look carefully you can buy things a lot cheaper look for the offers, we recently bought a 49" LCD TV for 13000 peso, now selling at 30000, from Lazada. We look for the offers saves a fortune. Philippines in my opinion is a good place to retire, but it's not for the feint hearted or the naive, life can get very tough here if your not careful.
You got a longtime befode
Philippines: Did she scam her fiance?:
No way on earth would i get involved with this woman, she has got just too much going on in her life, property here is a umber one priority over here, i don't believe a word of what she says, maybe she is such a bitch to live with her fiance could not stand being with her, i would not even talk to that woman. She is a wrong'n i feel it in my water.
Philippines: Visa for the Philippines?:
1 weeks holiday in Philippines? About 4 days will be spent traveling and her lag. You wasting your time and money i think. I spent 2 weeks here once that was not long enough, 3 to 4 weeks is better.
But as said before you seem to know absolutely nothing about the Philippines, you will have to be on your toes here, meeting g a girl for the first time? Got to have your wits about you 24/7.
Good luck
Philippines: Filipina wife of 20 years dies:
No way are you a snuck. But unfortunately you are in a very bad position now, the house will automatically go to her children, i think I am right in saying. Her son i suspect knows this and will want his share or a large pay off until you die then they get it. Unfortunately money changes people. Others here might be more help to you, i wish you all the luck in the world i hope you can come to an agreement where you can stay in your house. I have heard so many guys say that they bought the house so when he dies hiswife has a home. But of course if the opposite happens you stand to lose everything. Good luck
