Dominican Republic: Hope you all are ok:

I have been following about the floods in PP and the north coast. Hope you are ok.

Dominican Republic: Are the crimes in north coast increasing ?:

Thank you for your post. I am Puerto Rican living in CT, married to a Kiskeyano. We are moving to the Higuey region next summer with our kids. We have visited and stayed in the DR multiple times over the past 3 years. We know you have to be careful, especially in urban areas.. Let's be real...i live in a sleepy resort town, where crime is almost non existent. If i drive 20 miles west into New Haven, where I work as a visiting nurse, there are neighbirhood and even buildings where I keep my pepper spray at the ready. The entire country is not a crime haven. Be smart, research, be friendly to the locals and not condescending like some of the posters who most complain about the country are. If you walk around in fear or show disdain for the locals, then more likely they won't be there when you need them, and we all need good neighbors. You catch more flies with honey...

Dominican Republic: Ssfe Money transfers:

I am moving to the Higuey region in about 9 months. I sm looking for safe ways to transfer money from my US bank to a Dominican bank on a monthly basis. Does sny one use an online transfer service like xoom or "safe transfers", sharemoney, riamoney, etc . And are they safe? Western union is crazy expensive.

Dominican Republic: Negativity:

So many negative nellies out there, earning prospective ex pats to stay away. I have been and stayed in Kiskeya multiple times amd planning a final move with kids and hubby next year. Some parts pf the island are riskier than others Just like anywhere, look where you step It's no better or worse than other places with congested urban areas. The worse to worry about is traffic and staying safe on the road. The rural areas are safer and beautiful to live in. My advice to complainers, vet involved with the local community and be constructive instead of complaining. And if you hate it so much, there are flights to anywhere, every day. It is not your country, rrspect the people and culture or leave.
