Some Forum Posts:

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Best Location for Medical Care:

Why do you think that's so many specialists? All the person mentioned was a neurologist. There are neurologists in Ecuador.

Indonesia: Healthcare in Bali:

I'm wondering about the healthcare options in Bali? I've read they're promoting medical tourism there, but have been in touch with an acquaintance who lives there. She said the health care is very poor and that people go to Australia to be treated. She also told me not to go there because there's dengue and other mosquito borne illnesses galore. I'm interested in feedback from people who've spent a fair amount of time there and might have had a medical issue attended to.

India: foreign retirees living in India:

I was planning to take my elderly mother to live in Pondy. However, many people, including one Indian born doctor have warned me not to. The doctor told me that in an emergency situation there would be little to no care for her. The others, not medical personnel have told me there is a much lower standard of hygiene and the chance of serious gastrointestinal infections is great. I'd like to hear some feedback from you. Please tell me where you live and how you like it. Thanks, Ellen

India: Duration of time one can spend in India:

It's my understanding that US citizens can apply for a ten year, multiple entry visa before going to India. That allows them to remain in India for six months at a time and then they must leave for two months before returning to India to repeat the process. That's a recent development, but I've been hearing some talk of changes. Who knows though? That's the way it is now.

India: Any advice about Pondicherry (Pondy):

I would like to spend some time in Pondy. Does anyone know how I'd go about finding a rental apartment (with air conditioning?) Any advice about Pondy would be appreciated. Thanks, Ellen

Italy: I Want to Move to Italy Without a Sponsor:

I've been planning to move to S. America for the past few years and due to one thing or another haven't yet made the move. Last night it hit me and kept me up all night thinking, I really would like to move to Europe, at least part time. I've dreamed of spending some time on one of the islands off the coast of Italy. I love Rome beyond words. I love Spain, particularly Barcelona. So, when I saw your post, I responded to it emotionally. My response to your question is that I don't know about the legal issues surrounding moving to Italy or other European countries. There are a number of excellent expat ezines that can help with that. However, I am responding to the issue of working in Europe. If you already have a site that's doing well, continue to develop it or others to support yourself. My feeling is that it's going to be difficult to find a job in the best of economic times and now is not the best of times. Work on boosting your online income to the point where it's on automatic and consider studying to become a freelance copywriter or web writer to supplement your income should you need to do so. My suggestion is to work online as much as possible so you have time to have fun and truly enjoy your new home country. The downside of working online, of course, is the limits on social interaction if you don't have a job, a place to meet people. Since you already have an online dating site and other site, host live events in your new home town. You'll have some resistance and skepticism at first, but I believe you'll meet lots of people that way. Good luck and keep us posted about where and when you move. Ellen

India: Expats in Rajasthan and/or Goa ?:

Hi, I'm not currently living in Goa or Rajasthan, however, I am considering moving to Goa as one option. May I ask you why you're planning to move to India, why Goa and why then Rajasthan? Are you planning to work there? I'd like to hear more about your process and if you plan to live there for an indefinite time. Do you know much about getting a visa, etc.? Thanks, Ellen
