Philippines: where to safely retire in the philippines59:
Can only speak for my area of Leyte in the Province of Matalom. Very rural area, agriculture industry only. No major stores within 30 minutes, limited cell service and internet. Great things -- no traffic, little polution, great friendly people, beautiful mountain and ocean surroundings, cheap cost of living. $3500 would allow a person to live nicely here...... not a king in his mansion... just comfortable.
Philippines: Cats need homes:
Can always use cats in the pig barns... where are you located?
Philippines: information on Hilonghos Sand Southern Leyte:
Great agriculture area. No fast craft to Cebu from Hilongos, only slow boat (5 hours give or take. No major damage from Yolanda.
Philippines: Hilongos Leyte:
Hilongos is less than a 30 minute ride from our farm. We go there often for everything from farm supplies to catching the ferry to Cebu (BTW the church will let you leave your vehicle in the lot for a few days if you ask nicely). The market area has everything you need, there are a couple nice small eateries, at least 4 motorcycle dealers I can think of, a couple decent shopping stores and you are relatively close to BayBay or Maasin City for your Jollibees fix. The trip to Baybay is flat, mostly straight and easy to travel. The trip to Maasin City is pretty straight and flat until you hit Cahagnaan and then it becomes a Thilly and twisty (nothing to worry over) neither of the routes have any significant traffic to be concerned with. There is a MetroSM Hypermart in Maasin, however, the supplies can sometimes be limited. A trip to Ormoc (BIR, CCC, Etc,) or Tacloban (McDonalds, Mall, Movies, better selection at stores.....) is only a couple hours in a car or less on a good motorcyle. The beaches in the area can be dirty, but with a little effort you can find the good spots. Don't know about night life because I get up too early to feed livestock to spend the night on the town :) I typically see a few Expats around the area but it isn't overrun like you can experience in Manila or Cebu. Hope some of this helps, feel free to contact me for any specific questions.
Philippines: Dog lovers, dog shows, purebred dogs:
We live up the mountain on our pig farm right on the border of Southern Leyte (can't wait for the jets to fly directly over our farm landing at the new Maasin City airport ;) ). We have a male and female Rottweiler along with our trusty mutt. The hardest thing is keeping the children from attempting to pet them as we are training them for protection purposes.
Philippines: How much are you really living on?:
I came with around $70K US. Built a small house and a medium size piggery. We live on income from the sale of pigs and an organic commercial garden. Current bills (not including $100K per month feeds).
Electric - 8000 Peso

Philippines: throw away ticket:
July 2016
Columbus Ohio
Delta airlines.. specifically asked to see return ticket confirmation, agent was reading what I would guess were regulations, counted days from arrival to departure.
Connecting flight
Seoul, Asiana airlines
Chilling at the gate waiting for boarding, noticed a girl walking worth a list of names... mine included. Was directed to reticketing to get an actual Asiana ticket and verify documents. Pull up confirmation email, take the date and confirmation number back. They actually ran the vonfirmation number to vrrify the exit travel.
Cebu .... Immigration counter
Young lady looked at my passport, with a smile asked how long I was staying this time and where I Lived. "Welcome home Mr Jones"
My passport looks like a Philippine stamp collection, so never worry about PH Immigration, thankfully always buy a ticket out... This time from Clsrk to Singapore.... total cost ... zip, zilch, nadda...... 24 hours to cancel... buy at departing airport, get confirmation email, cancel right before departing connecting airport.
