Netherlands: Transporting pets from US?:

Hello, I recently moved from the US and flew 2 cats on NWA from Phoenix to Schipol. You will need to get a health certificate from your vet as well as be current on vacinations. I flew my cats in cargo and they did fine. Unfortunatley i did not know the health certificate issued by the vet has to have a federal stamp on it as well. My cats were taken off the plane in Detroit and detained a day due to my lack of this. I had flown on a different airline and did not find out until after arriving in NL which was a but nerve wracking. Some friends in the US made several calls and somehow got the cats released and they were on the next flight. Once they arrived they were surprisingly ok, not too stressed, the carriers were clean, they had been fed and had water. I was told they were taken to a kennel and were not left sitting at the airport. Some airlines do allow animals in the cabin, but limit you to one per passenger and the cat must be under 11 pounds. Check the requirements for each airline and make sure you have the proper kennel for each cat. Look for one that is appoved for international travel. I paid $678 and that included the $200 import fee here in the Netherlands. I hope this info is useful and your travels with the cats goes well. Jerri
