Nicaragua: Me, The Wife, The Kids--Gone:
You asked if Nicaragua is a decent place to raise a family.
In my experience, it definitely is. I came here when my daughter was 8 years old. She's now 14 and very happy here, as am I.
She goes to the Colegio Aleman-Nicaragüense, one of the several international schools in Managua.
If you are interested, I've written about the various schools here...

I agree with the advice from several others here: come down for an extended visit, and treat your visit as a "test drive" for living here, not as a vacation.
After 3 months, you and your family should know if Nicaragua is for your, of if you should look for another country.
Nicaragua: 2 month stay:
Hi there! You mentioned that León may be an option. A friend of mine stayed at Harvest House in León for a month or two. He loved it there.
Prices start at $5 per night for a month long stay.
Nicaragua: Hospitality:
Hi lucasphillips, welcome to the ExpatExchange Forum. This is actually my first post, so you are one post ahead of me. :-)
A good place to look for businesses to purchase is Encuentra24.com. They have a category called "Venta de Negocios" under "Servicios y Negocios."
I found for example two businesses in Granada that are for sale. One is a pizzeria, the other one a Bar / Restaurant with accommodation.
Good luck in your search and your move to Nicaragua.
Nicaragua: Rental:
Hi Jim,
My favorite place to look for rentals is Encuentra24.com. Make sure you select the Nicaragua country version when you search.
I did a search right now for houses for rent in Granada and got 48 results.
Another good place to look specifically in Granada is "GPS Granada Property Services."
Hope that helps!
