Belgium: 6 months in Belgium with small children...help!:
My husband works in Brussels occasionally and has now been offered the possibility of a 6 month position there with his company. If he takes it me and the children will go too - so I am excited, but a little scared!
My kids are 2 and 9 mths and in the UK we are heavily involved with the NCT & LLL. We attend a lot of toddler groups and they go to nursery 3 mornings a week while I work (I'm a nurse in the NHS but would take a "career break"). What kind of things will I find to do with my children in Brussels? Amongst my questions are how breastfeeding friendly is Belgium? Is it acceptable to feed babies in public? How welcome are children in restaurants, how pushchair friendly is Brussels? If I found one, would it be a good idea to send my eldest to nursery a couple of mornings or not, given that he doesn't speak French or Flemish? I only have a basic high school grasp of French, how easy (or difficult) will it be to get by? Obviously if the move happens I will try and have lessons to improve my language skills, but even so! I am also a trainee antenatal teacher with the UK NCT so it would be nice to find out about Belgian birth practices etc, and maybe observe any antenatal classes that are given in English out there (if such things exist). Sorry for rambling, just thought others may have some advice? Thank you!
