Ecuador Welcome Forum: Presidential Election:

The new immigration laws that have not gone into effect yet, but do have an option to stay a year. Article 56. - The tourist visa is for 90 days in the period of one year from the date of the first entry, and may be extended or extended for a single time up to 90 additional days, applying for the request and paying the fee. If the foreigner is interested in extending his stay as a tourist for a maximum period of one year, they must apply for a special tourist visa, but they cannot carry out any activity other than tourism, demonstrating the economic solvency that allows that time to remain in the country Ecuador and paying the government fee. All foreigners who come as tourists must have health insurance for the duration of their stay in Ecuador.

Ecuador: Prescription Medications?:

Meds are a little different here. 75% of common medication can be purchased over the counter at the pharmacy without a prescription. To see if they have it, google the name of your prescription and 'Spanish'. Get the spanish name for the medication or its generic. Then you can search fybeca.com to see if they carry it. They carried 6 out of 8 medications for my wife and I. Some they will not carry and it may require a doctors note, like anxiety meds, or ordering a year supply from a Canadian Pharmacy each year and bring them with you. But you can always bring your scripts with you and show a doctor here.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: golf in Montecristi?:

I just played 3 weeks ago. There is an expat group that plays every Tues and Fri morning. It is $35, it includes cart and club rental if needed. Cab ride is $8 from Manta each way. I am not sure if they have a lefty set but I think they had 1. I will be moving in a month. In my container I am bringing about 6 lefty clubs (really old but my wife is a lefty too and she had a few clubs) so by the time you get down there worst comes to worst you can borrow the partial set. 3w/5/7/9/P/Putter. When I am in Ecuador full time and play a round, (end of April) I will ask about the lefty clubs. Looking forward to you coming down and playing hanging out with the group.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Parasites:

What would be the symptoms of Parasites? Are they ever mild like just gas pains, or if you get them, you really know you have something wrong?

Ecuador: So long and thanks for all the fish:

If you have not guessed, this forum is half info and half ball busting from wanna-be comedians that have known each other for years. Ya just need to ignore those posts. Suggest you look at the Ecuador Expats group on facebook, lots more info and less commentary there.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Finally making the trip...:

May want to join the Ecuador Expats group on facebook, they have a ton of information and alot of people can help there. If you like the coastal area, many people also like Salinas.

Ecuador: 75% capital gains tax:

Looks like it passed, but it is not as bad as it sounds. There is a calculator here: http://www.sri.gob.ec/web/guest/calculadora-impuesto-valor-especulativo-del-suelo But messed around with it, if you bought a property at 160K and sold it 3 years and 1 mo later for 200K, you only owe $3600 in cap gains tax, so less than 10%. It is based on time owned. If you own it for 5 years, you wont owe anything. So it really is for flippers. bought for 120000 sold for 160000, 3yrs 1 mo, only owe $864, so you keep 39K profit. If you sell this same property after 11 month, you owe 17226. so it is really based on people that buy and sell something right away.

Ecuador: taking money out of Ecuador:

From what I understand, is the EC govt is trying to keep money in their country. This is why they can offer 7% interest on 1 year CDs. But to take the money out of the country, they charge 5%. So that way they do not get a bunch of foreign investment just to get the high interest rates. So yes, you will be charged 5% on any withdrawal. As for the $1098 limit. That is what you can personally take with you in your pockets when you leave the country without being taxed. The $1098 is a totally different thing than bank withdrawals. expect 5% on any amount you take out while in the US on an EC bank.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Divorce documents:

Was it Susan or Dana that does the 30 minute Skype meeting to prepare for getting a residency Visa? I might have emailed Dana when I should have emailed Susan. Thanks
