Costa Rica: "Border Run" ideas?:
Hello,
I need to get out of CR mid-Jan. Was planning on Cartegena, until I saw the airfare! Now leaning toward Grenada, Nicaragua or islands east of Nic or Panama. Any suggestions for an adult woman traveling alone? Somewhere safe, beautiful, and within reach? Would also welcome suggestions on moderate lodging. Thanks!
Costa Rica: Friends in Heredia?:
Hello,
I recently moved to Heredia to study at Intercultural downtown near the Palacio de Deportes for 1 yr+. Seeking English speaking friends for tennis (level=4.0), coffee, etc. Also looking for small apt outside the city (have cat), but I don't have a car, so not too far from city or bus.
Costa Rica: Do expats need a return ticket?:
My recent situation was a little different, but it might be worthwhile to share it. I had a one-way flight on United from Denver C0 USA to Costa Rica and showed that I had a hotel reservation in Nicaragua within 90 days. That wasn't accepted. United wanted a receipt from a tour co taking me to Nicaragua, or a flight out of CR. (A friend is taking me to Nic.) I booked a flight to Managua, which I can change later, just to get on the plane. The change fee is $200. I barely made my flight. Live and learn!
Costa Rica: Good Eye Clinic near SJ:
Hola,
I am looking for an excellent eye doctor or clinic near San Jose. I am interested in having a corrective laser procedure done here (so I can live without reading glasses) and as I understand it, I should be able to get that done here for much less than I would pay in the US. Thanks!
Costa Rica: Bashing Oldpro:
I agree with beachgirl and coconut. i check this site because I am new to Costa Rica and seek information. It dismays me to find instead these deeply personal attacks.
Costa Rica: Mailed Packages:
Hola! I mailed some boxes from Denver to myself c/o a hotel in Giones Beach. (I wish I hadn't.) The former hotel owner has received notices that my boxes appear to be in Puntarenas, quite far away. Does anyone know if the local postal service will forward my boxes to the local hotel? Or do I have to go pick them up? I will try calling the post office Mon, but my Spanish isn't the greatest. The former hotel owner seems to be under the impression that I may have to travel to Puntarenas (and possibly pay duties) to retrieve my things. Ugh! Thanks, Georgene (here for a year)
Costa Rica: Smart Phone Settings:
Hello. Recently came here and I can't get my Verizon (paid up(internatl plan) Smart Phone to work. Even when I try calling to check my minutes, I get a voice in Spanish saying, sorry..... I also can't get logged into Verizon chat! Does anyone know what I need to do to get my phone working? It seems to be just the calling out that isn't working. Thanks!
Costa Rica: Seeking Rental:
Hello,
My name is Georgene and I've just arrived in Costa Rica for a one-year trial in retirement here.
I booked a place in Nosara for six months on AirB&B. Upon arrival, I've learned the the B&B is being sold on Nov 2 and the new owners need me out!
I have my cat with me and I don't have a car. I'm looking for a place for us in a pretty quiet place near basic stores and services where there are Spanish speakers and ideally a Spanish school nearby.
Thanks! Georgene
