Colombia: Run in with Taxi Driver:

The lesson here is that when you get scammed, let it be a penny ante scam.

Colombia: Retirement in Colombia: the decision-making process:

Mountains out of molehills, folks. Existential angst isn't demanded, at least not when you can sometimes get an airline ticket to Colombia for about what it cost to fill the gas tank on your Suburban. If you like it, stay. If you don't, buy a ticket back.

Colombia: Problems at Customs with a Return Flight Booked Over 90 Days?:

Aduana won't care how long you stay, only about what you bring; Migracion runs the jungle detention camps for detainee wetbacks, where all get you get to eat are arepas.

Nicaragua: Which C.A. country is best to live in?:

Count your blessings. Been in the southern cone the last few weeks. Montevideo and Buenos Aires are roughly triple priced versus Nica-Colombia-Ecuador -- Montevideo features $2 local bus fares, $2-$4 newspapers, $6 draft beer, and $8-12 menu del dia lunch -- which doesn't include soup. Single scoop ice cream cone is $2.50. The coffee is usually $4 a cup and often tastes of iodine. But that all looks pretty cheap when you cross the river to Buenos Aires, home of the $7US Big Mac. At least the Spanish is an entertaining variant, and the butcher will cut you a nice ribeye for $3 or $4 a pound.

Nicaragua: WOW:

Seems there are a lot more 13-year old ex-pats in Nicaragua than I would have guessed.

Nicaragua: Golf:

Those who come to Nicaragua for golf will likely be disappointed. Focus on ice fishing.

Colombia: SEX AND DRUG TOURISTS in EL POBLADO:

Darwinian selection will separate the wheat from the chaff. Count on the weak to be picked off, killed and eaten, and quickly. The unlucky will suffer longer.

Nicaragua: Nicaragua Turning to Dictatorship Again?:

Some folks only want enough power to take as much as they want.
