Hi Wayne This is Fred from Scottsdale. We tried Houston, Atlanta and Miami when going down to Colombia and settled on Atlanta using Delta. We leave Sky Harbor at 7:30 am and get to Bogota 7:30 pm Arizona time. Coming back it is the same 12 hours travel time

I too have a Colombian wife and we are starting to build a house in La Mesa, which is pretty close to Anapoima. A few years ago we looked at Anapoima but got sidetracked. La Mesa is a bit cooler and our house will be in a gated community on the outskirts of La Mesa. I understand the "Gringo: effect and it might be a good idea to have your wife and relatives do the initial house-hunting and even have her sign all the documents. If you are interested in exploring La Mesa just let me know. As a side, we are also looking for a small apartment in Bogota to use when we need to come to the city and don't want to impose on my brother and sister in law every time we need to stay a few days. In this case I sent my wife and sister in law to do the looking and pricing. It is a lot cleaner that way since the only way I can pass for a Colombian is to go to a tanning booth every day for six months.

Colombia: Power of attorney:

We are planning to move to Colombia next year and sent funds to build a house. Everything is in my wife's name and we had a power of attorney made so that she can act in any way for my wife( house, car, bank accounts - everything). We has it prepared by a notario and it is basically another escritura. It isn't like a one page power of attorney in the US. I can't remember the cost but I think it may have been 150000 pesos

Colombia: How To Apply For TP7 Visa and Cedula:

I am planning to move to Colombia later next year and unless there is an easier way I will probably get the TP-10 visa and cedula when we (my Colombian wife and I) get there. I will probably have help from my brother-in-law. Since we live in Arizona it would cost at least $500 to go to Los Angeles. Please let me know if anyone has a better idea.

Colombia: Will COL Appropriate 33 Percent of Your Income?:

I have been a tax preparer in Arizona for the last 40 years and plan to move with my wife (Colombian) to just outside of Bogota at the end of next year when our house is built. My suggestion to all of the comments is to find a very competent tax preparer in Colombia and not try to compare US and Colombian systems. I plan on continue but limit my practice to those clients I have that can send me everything via internet and I can efile everything from Colombia. For my Colombian taxes I will rely on my brother-in-law's tax preparer who has already given us great advice. I guess the bottom line is that the USA is not Colombia. Fred
