Costa Rica: Did anyone feel the earthquakes?:

I was surprised when I went to Tico Times online and read about the strong earthquake in Costa Rica 37 miles off the coast of Tamarindo.I think it was 5.2. Then 2 tourists who come here every year told me that they felt the ground moving this morning. I found out they were right. The guard also told us that he felt one last night during his night shift. My daughter told me that the news were all over Facebook and she was surprised that I hadn't mentioned anything about it! I wonder if Shermanwc felt it!

Costa Rica: expats leaving CR:

GBP I'm not surprised you did your own residency because after I got all my documents notarized and authenticated from the Foreign Affairs and from the Embassy of Costa Rica I thought: Why do I need to pay my lawyer when I did all the work? The reason I decided to go ahead and use her services was based on something I read saying that the Immigration prefers to deal with lawyers and that sometimes they would tell those who had filed on their own that they couldn't find their application. I have a neighbor here from Canada who married a Tico and after speaking to my lawyer she decided to do it on her own! Well, I also think it's much easier for her!-She will get the Permanent Residency much sooner!

Costa Rica: Have you read this?:

Even though it happens everywhere it's always sad! http://qcostarica.com/u-s-embassy-in-san-jose-warns-crime-is-increasing-in-costa-rica/

Costa Rica: 90 day border jumpers:

hartumpire There are several tourists where I live who come here every year for 5-6 months and they own vehicles.

Costa Rica: Too old?:

suetho, No, you are not too old! I'm going to be 63 and my husband is 68 and we applied for Pensionato Residency in October 2015. We got approved in May 2016. We're very happy here! My neighbor is 75 and he applied for residency here 3 years ago. Don't give up on your dream! Just pray about it! All the best for you guys!

Costa Rica: Renewing the Cedula:

I was the one who told my neighbor he had to renew his Cedula (Pensionato). He thought he was a Tico! The expire date is July (first 2 years). So he contacted the American Embassy, he went to the bank and he says he has everything ready. Now he is telling us that he went to the lawyer and she told him to do this in august! How can it be? I'm wondering if the lawyer told him that the documents expire in August and he misunderstood her! He needs to go to the States for his sister's operation and stay there for 3 months. I had suggested that he takes care of the Cedula now! What do you say?

Costa Rica: About CIMA:

I used to think that CIMA was a public hospital but my neighbor says it's a private one. What about Hospital Clinica Biblica and Hospital Clínico San Rafaél Arcángel? I'm mentioning the ones in Liberia! So in case we need to go to a hospital which one should we go? Maybe I should add: which one is the cheapest one?

Costa Rica: Why investors are not coming to C.R. ??:

They are coming here to Playas del Coco! In our complex there are 5 tourist families who wan to buy here and the condo next to mine was just sold to someone else! The guy bought it online and he had never been in CR. He just arrived on Friday and he is very happy about our pool and grounds!-He also had the realtor in charge of painting and decorating the condo!

Costa Rica: Safety:

I agree with Khol. In the beginning we used to take a beach bag and tie it to the beach flag pole. The vendors arund it are very friendly. However since we live so close to the beach we go in our bathing suits and I put the condo key which is attached to a string (like a bracelet) around my arm. Then I hold my flip flops.

Costa Rica: "Costa Rica's most endearing quality is its people":

I totally agree! That's why it is so sad that these old gringos come here and take advantage of the people's poverty to snatch their young daughters to be their lovers or even wives when they could be in a lot of cases their daughters or even granddaughters! And then they walk around so proud thinking in their sick minds that having a young lady makes them look good and young!-It's exactly the opposite! I wish the Government would crack down on these fools!
