Kuwait: Bringing Family to Kuwait:
My husband came over to Kuwait a couple of months before my daughter and I did. We came over on visit visas and just renewed them when needed (every 3 months). Your family can take a day trip to Bahrain to renew the visas. We did this until our residencies went through.
You being there for one month is realistic if you are able to get out and find an apartment in that time. Company housing usually doesn't allow for family members and you will most likely be sharing an apartment with another man anyways. You can get with a realtor to find an apartment in your off hours. My husband went at night when he got off work. It was late but he found a realtor who was available at night.
Kuwait: Sour cream and Greek yogurt:
You can get sour cream and a variety of greek yogurt at the LuLu Center. Not sure where you live but one just opened that I know carries them. If you take 40 to exit 208 and get off going west.. LuLu will be on your lefthand side.
Kuwait: 3 bedroom apt:
I am here with my hubby and daughter. When hubby first came, he came without us. On his days off, he would search for apartments and take pictures/video of them and send them to me via email so I could see them as well. This worked out great for us and he was able to get an apartment before we came. He can see apartments at night after work, it's not a problem. It doesn't take long either. They are pretty flexible out here with being able to see apartments at odd times.
As for how much you pay in rent, it all depends on where you want to live. I would definitely suggest an unfurnished apartment. You can furnish an apartment fairly cheap here if you get used furniture and there are tons of people who are always moving and selling their things. You can get a 3 bedroom unfurnished for 350 a month! 600 is too high. If he will be working on arifjan, then an apartment in Egaila, Mahboula, Mangaf, etc, would be places he could look for descent priced apartments.
As for the job market for you to get a job before you come, unfortunately there are a lot of layoffs going on right now and not a whole lot of hiring so it could take you a long time. If you are able, I would suggest coming out here with your family and being together and you can keep looking while you are here.
You and your kids can come out here on a visit visa which is good for 3 months and you can fly to Bahrain or Dubai pretty cheap for the day or night and fly back in country to renew the visa for another 3 months. We did that while we were waiting for our residencies to go through.
As for child care, sending your children to schools out here (the descent ones) are going to be sort of expensive but some are definitely worth it. You could also home school if they are older and you choose to do so. If you just need someone to watch your children while you are at work, you can get a nanny here pretty cheap who can either live with you or not.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions about being out here with the kids, etc. Just remember that as scary as it may feel, it is what you make it. If you come out here with a positive attitude, you will be just fine. You will meet lots of people from all over the world and it will be a great experience for your family. :)
Kuwait: Electronics and Appliances:
The hair dryer and curling iron you can leave there. They have them here (unless you are stuck on a specific brand/type). As for the ipod player, check it because it may be dual voltage (I know mine is). The coffee pot, I would bring. I ordered mine and we have it plugged into an adapter. I just haven't found any descent coffee pots out here and I ended up ordering one and having it shipped here and am happy I did.
Kuwait: sewing machine:
In fahaheel.. I think it's down the same street that the lulu center is... I drove past and saw a sign in the window of a store (it was upstairs but could be seen from the street) that said sewing machines.. I never went in though so I am unsure of their selection.
Kuwait: Curtains:
There is a Fabric souk in Kuwait city (maybe Sharq I think) that has tons of fabric to choose from and I believe there are people upstairs who can make the curtains for you. Just go there with the measurements you need.
To get there.. From Kuwait towers on gulf road, drive toward the grand mosque.. take a left at the grand mosque.. if you look ahead on the road, you will see a giant building with what looks like a giant satellite dish on top of it.. the fabric souk is just before that on the right hand side. You will see a parking lot and a place to take a ticket to park.. go in the parking lot and go toward the back.. you will see all the fabric stores. There are a ton of them inside the buildings.
Kuwait: Walking:
Hi. I would be interested in a walking club. What do you have in mind? Walking in Salwa? I'm in Egaila right now so I'm south a bit.
Kuwait: Tattoo Removal:
does anyone know of anyone in kuwait that does tattoo removal? I've contacted several dermatologists and they have all said they do not have the equipment for it.. only hair removal.
I have heard of a few people that had it done out here but have since left so I wasn't able to find out where they went.
Does anyone know of a dermatologist that does tattoo removal? Laser. Thanks
