Guatemala: Money Exchange:
Hello all!
I have read in other posts/articles that it is not easy to exchange cash in Guatemala for local currency. Are there the typical "casas de cambio" or money exchange kiosks there at all?
In other words, if I arrive from Mexico or Belize, with Mex Pesos or Belizean dollars, where can I exchange them in, for example, Flores or Lake Atitlan? Or at the airports?
I know most people suggest just using ATM's for withdrawals but my bank charges extra fees that add up over time.
Thank you!
Belize: Drinking water Corozal:
Hello! I've heard that expats drink the tap water in Belize with no ill effects... is this true?
What about in Corozal? Also, do water trucks deliver purified water in 5 gal jugs to homes, etc?
What about ice in restaurants in Corozal? Do they use purified water?
Thaaanks!
Belize: Is table salt in Belize fluoridated:
Is regular table salt in Belize iodized and fluoridated?
In several Latin American countries, the normal salt in shops says "yodada y fluorodada" (iodized and fluoridated). This is unlike the table salt in the US that is just iodized and fluoride is added to utility water, not table salt.
Is natural sea salt available in Belize? Like the kind you might get at a health/natural food shop?
In Mexico you can sometimes find sea salt in grocery shops, but it the packaging indicates that it is iodized and fluoridated. So, I'm looking for the natural sea salt...
Has anyone noticed this in Belize?
Thanks for all input! :)
Belize: Maestro Debit Card Use:
Greetings all!
Has anyone had any luck using a Maestro Debit card at Scotia Bank in Corozal recently?
Maestro's website says the card is compatible at that bank (and no fees!) and I have used my card at Scotia Bank in other countries that are in the network, as Belize is supposed to be.
I read an old post somewhere that said "sometimes" it works at the Scotia Bank ATM in Corozal and if not, the ATM will "eat" your card and then you have to wait until someone inside the bank will retrieve the card for you.
So, before trying it, does anyone regularly use a Maestro card at Scotia Bank in Corozal? Or at a Scotia Bank anywhere else in Belize? Orange Walk branch maybe?
Thanks!
Belize: Hotel in Corozal:
Hello all! We are thinking to visit Corozal and someone told us that they stayed in a budget hotel that either had a lot of cactus (or cactus statues?) outside and/or the name of the hotel had "Cactus" in it.... but they didn't remember the name of the hotel.
Does anyone here know of such a place in Corozal?
If not, any good suggestions for at least a week stay, maybe longer while we look around? We are looking for a budget place but hopefully quiet, not a party place, safe and simple... not going for a luxury vacation this time...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
