Trinidad & Tobago: Moving to Trinidad...Red Alert!!!:

Good Night, Trinidad Law does not permit non residents to work for more than 30 days without a pre approved work permit. Typically if you have a skill which is in high demand, or a unique skill which no other national can provide your sponsor (employer) will receive the work permit on the condition that during the duration of the work period, a national is trained to carry on the duties when the permit expires. Work permits are seldom renewed. Yes it is a pain in the azz to do business with Government Offices and yes a rule of thumb is that if you expect something to be done in three months multiply that by a factor of 6. Public servants don't care about the needs of the public and are practically inured from being fired under existing law, and they have a job security for life.

Hey Steph Bmobile and Digicel both have Prepaid and postpaid plans......all you need is your passport for the prepaid and for the postpaid plans maybe a small deposit. Best of luck.

lol...........anyway an average size house costs around 100 USD every 40 days (weird billing cycle) so that works out to about $2.50 usd daily or 75 per month. Might be slightly higher based on usage. Good Luck.

Trinidad & Tobago: Moving from US to Trini:

Let me add my few pesos.....If your child was not born in the country or does not have residency you cannot enter them into the Government free schools. You are told that the free schools are for citizens and residents only and your child would be taking a school place for which he/she was not entitled. Don't waste your time trying to get them into a public school, I would suggest St. Augustine Community College for High School (750 USD per term) and UWI Pre University 6th Form school (2000 usd ) per year. Having said so, I am not particularly impressed with the work ethic of most teachers in the government public school system while the Religious board public schools have the right approach. CSEC/CAPE is a waste of time and they should return to Cambridge O' Levels and A Levels to produce internationally standardized students.

Yes. Lange Park. Close to Pricesmart Plaza and 5 min access to the Highway.

Good Day, Your best approach is to find an employer who is willing to sponsor your work permit. Generally speaking, salaries paid by local Trinidadian companies in the Non Energy Sector hover around 33% of equivalent salaries in the usa. Expats are only allowed to work for 1 month without a work permit. Hope that helps. Good Luck.

Trinidad & Tobago: where to live:

Hello, Unfurnished houses in the Trincity area can be rented for a little under 1000 USD. In the St. Augustine area which is 10 mins from the university itself you can get a decent unfurnished 2 br apt for around 750 USD. My suggestion would be St. Augustine if you prefer to cut out the need for vehicle transport and walk/bike to the Uni. Please note that walking alone around the university area after hours and late at night is not safe. The University has free shuttles to Curepe for staff and students however i do not know how late those shuttles run.

Trinidad & Tobago: School in Tobago:

Hello, If you have decided to stay in Trinidad I can suggest St. Augustine Community College which is a privately run secondary school close to the University. The teachers are good and the classrooms are all Air-conditioned. The school has cameras which are monitored by the general office staff and supervision is great. Tuition Cost is around 750 USD per Term. For 6th Form (pre-university) there is the UWI pre-university center which is also close by. This is a private secondary school for 6th Form students which is run by the University itself. Cost is around 2000 USD per year.

Trinidad & Tobago: Usa pensioned retiree wants to live in trinidad:

Good Day, If you have tried pulling out your fingernails with blunt pliers this would be a good comparison to obtaining residency in Trinidad. Staff at the Immigration department are rude, slow, lazy, ignorant and unhelpful. Most of them do not know how to execute their jobs and have to continuously refer issues to their supervisors. Hiring an Attorney to act on your behalf is a good option. Having said that.........any foreigner who has resided or studied in the country for Three (3) or more years can apply to the Ministry of National Security for residency. Foreigners can buy property without needing a permit. In Tobago, this may no longer be the case as the Island Authorities (THA) has placed restrictions on foreign ownership of lands there. My suggestion would be to buy your property and enter the country as a tourist. Immigration will give you Three (3) months stay on entry and you can apply for a further Three (3) months extension before the initial period expires. Simply leave the country after the six month period and return a couple weeks later, and repeat the process continuously until you have accrued the 3 year residency minimal limit and then apply for permanent residency. Once you apply for the Permanent residency you will be required to post a returnable bond of 1200 USD with the Immigration Department. You will not be required to leave the country periodically but you will have to visit their offices to obtain time extensions until you actually receive the residency document. Good Luck.
