Mexico: Arriving on the 20th Sept:
Aloha, I am moving from Hawai'i to Lake Chapala area on Monday. WE found a FABULOUS house for long term rental through Mario at AccessLakeChapala.com. He posts pictures, videos, Google maps, anything and everything you might want to know. I highly recommend Mario to anyone looking for a place. He has an email form with every listing and responds quickly. Please tell him I referred you. We just rented Casa Velasco and are *really* pleased with the entire process.

Mexico: Shipping 65" 4K TV from USA to Mexico:
Aloha!
I have just had to postpone my departure from Honolulu to Ajijic for another week because I've had zero luck finding a shipper .... other than quotes for $5,500+ & $8,000 plus ..... whereas I only want to bring ~20 boxes of stuff I can't live without. I have spent hours reading about Customs & what you can and cannot bring across the border. The #1 Rule is you can't bring in anything 'New.' Everything must have an appearance of being at least six months old, & if it doesn't we're told to bring in the sales receipt to prove it's age! The penalty for screwing up, is the entire shipment could be rejected! I need a new laptop to transfer everything over from an old one and a desk top. I'm afraid I might need to scratch it up or something to 'age' it.
I *highly* recommend you Google what the Customs regulations say, as I continue to be amazed at how strict they are.
I would love to hear how others respond to your question, I desperately need help finding a shipper .... and will followup on all leads. Just checked with FedEx last night, and they couldn't even offer Ground shipments from Hawai'i ...... they would charge $200+ for each banker's box!
I just want to *be there,* and wish I could say, "Beam me up Scotty! "
Mexico: Lake Chapala:
Aloha Kate,
I am retiring to Lake Chapala in about two weeks, after living in Hawai'i for 53 years. I was able to find a magnificent rental in Ajijic by going on the AccessLakeChapala.com website. That website has more information than you ever thought possible, and I highly recommend. There is a real estate agent named Mario Garcia who seems to have the most properties available. Each property has a contact form for Mario. It looks like 12 month leases are preferred, and you can probably negotiate prices ..... but everything is so reasonable, you can't go wrong. [After paying ~$3,500 /month in Hawaii, I can't wait to get to Mexico!]
Keep in mind that High Season for rentals starts in October, when all the Snowbirds come down, so you may have a better chance of locking in a good price before then.
Good luck to you! Maybe we'll run into each other at the Lake Chapala Society or hanging around town.
Aloha,
Denise
