Croatia: What makes Croatia special?:

I've been thinking about a warm place to retire and Italy and Spain are topping my list. Why should I consider Croatia? Cost of living, easier process? I've visited Croatia a few times but for whatever reason I haven't thought about Croatia as a retirement destination.

Italy: Cons of living in Italy:

The only con for me is trying to stay awake to watch American sports live on TV. 13 years living in Europe and that's my only gripe.

Italy: Why Italy?:

Simple reasons. Cost of living, culture and weather.

Italy: Home security? Roma / Gypsy concerns.:

I'm trying not to offend but in the Veneto there always seems to be security concerns at certain times of the year when it comes due to the influx of the Roma's or Gypy's. It's a real concern , enough so that the Carb's actually give classes on Post to warn of the dangers and how to spot potential issues. How do you protect your property when you are not there? Private company? Friends?

Italy: Retiring in Italy in 2 years. To prepare?:

I'll be buying a vacation / retirement house in Italy sometime in 2018/19. What should I do now to start to prepare for the move? Paperwork, visa, real estate info??? I've lived in Italy for 7 years while I served in the military so I do know about Italy .

Spain: Where to buy in Spain???:

I've visited Spain twice once to Barcelona and Lorett del Mar and also to the Sevilla area. I'll be buying in the next two years but won't have the budget to visit more then twice by then. Recommendations on how to decide on where to retire? A lot of factors I know but any simple suggestions? Thanks.

Spain: Retire in Spain, how much per month?:

I'll be retiring in a couple of years from the military and I'm hoping that my retirement check will be more than enough to live on. $3,500.00 per month.

Italy: Siracusa expats:

Who watches your place when you are not there? The prices in Sicily and southern Italy are generally much cheaper but I am very concerned about security.

Italy: Converters (electrical):

I know most know this but it was only after 7 years of living in Europe that I figured out. I never knew that you could use any type of 110V lighting fixture as long as you used 220v light bulbs and you had a adapter to fit the 220 outlets! I DID NOT KNOW THIS, lol.
