Portugal: Entrepreneur Visa:
Does anyone on this forum have first hand experience with an Entrepreneur visa in Portugal?
Portugal: Too young to retire?:
This post is a continuation of some of the previous posts I have done about retiring to Portugal from Canada.
We were given the wrong visa by the Vancouver Consulate and after a fair bit of digging, likely know why. I am 52 and my wife is 37 and no one here in Portugal WANTS us to retire and the good folks at the SEF offices just look with disdain at us when we mention the word retire. I really can't blame them especially with my wife's age. We have been offered Entrepreneur visas and golden visas but it sort of looks like the retirement visa is off the table. We might like to start a business ass that is what we are good at but we don't want to have to start a business. Golden is not an option.
Has anyone that is a part of this forum retired to Portugal at a relatively young age for a non EU country?
Thanks All
Portugal: Cascais and Carcavelos:
We are going to be looking at some rentals in Cascais and Carcavelos. I know that Lisboa is close but is either city fun to be in for a pair of younger people who love walking and exploring urban landscapes? We will go into Lisboa a lot but in the evening it is nice to stroll sometimes. I'm looking for opinions or comments on either from people who have first hand knowledge of them.
Portugal: Looking for Lisbon three month rental:

Portugal: Life after getting here.:
As previously stated in another thread, my wife and I arrived in faro on October 18. Our expectations were to have to spend a lot more money to live until we find out if we can get a residence permit and we were correct. I now have a few actual costs that I can share. First off we rented a townhouse at Boa Vista Golf resort in Lagos as this is the quality of home we are used to in Canada. We had been there before and knew it's level of comfort It is online if you would like to see it. In my opinion, it would have been way more difficult to show up in Portugal and cut our quality of our home life in half. For the first week we paid 90 Euros a night and then negotiated a monthly rate of 1,450. All the rents we ever found online were incorrect to some degree. Most of the time it was for long term lets of a year and those are quite reasonable, depending on your requirements. Personally, we like heat when its cold and a/c when its really hot. Not everyone needs these but we do. In Lagos, these luxuries are not easy, or cheap to come by. We just agreed to a three month let for a nice three bedroom apartment but it has heat only in one bedroom. The rest is heated by a wood fireplace. This cost 950 Euros all in with wifi.
We have not been able to find anything cheaper that we would be happy in.
Food is cheap @ 1/2-1/3 Calgary costs depending on what you buy. Wine is cheap @ 1/4 Calgary costs. Car rental is cheap at $160Euros a month. A pint of beer is 3 Euros.
We have not eaten out as we do all of our meals at home hence needing a really good kitchen.
The weather is incredible for us. 20 C. everyday right now.
We have been here before but it is still a huge adjustment. The buildings have hollow walls that allow sound to transfer easily and we can hear our neighbors talking. So far I have bought two fresh fish from the market and they cost me 7 Euros each time. One was a Hake and the other a Med. Sea bass and both were a meal for two.
Once we decide to stay in Portugal, our rents will undoubtedly decrease with a long term let.
We will be sharing our experiences as they happen.
Have fun everyone!
Portugal: My SEF Appointment Experience--Lisbon:
Thank you for taking the time to give us all some first hand experience!
This is the kind of information I was hoping for when I found this forum.
Enjoy your stay and congratulations!
Portugal: Good Restaurants reasonably priced in Cascais:
One of our favorites is the Tasting Room. It is a fun wine bar where you can have wine by the glass or the bottle. Staff has always been more than kind and we have had a few encounters with other Expats without formality.
Food is small bites and for us, so far, we prefer it that way.
Portugal: New website:
Hi all,
I stumbled onto this website today and thought it might be of use to someone else.

Portugal: Car rental:
Hello all,
I'm hoping for any insight to car rental for about 3-6 months.
If I understand correctly, I am not allowed to buy one until the residence permit is issued by SEF. We have been to Portugal several times and always have rented from Hertz at the Faro airport with a cost of 400 Euros per month. This came with 1 million liability and collision damage coverage but had a 1500 Euro deductible.
This time I'm hoping to find a reputable company where I can get a small car for two that is more affordable for a longer term rental. One with all insurance included would be nice.
We fly into Faro but we are good to pick up/ drop off anywhere between the Algarve and Porto as we know our way round pretty well.
Thanks in advance.
Portugal: Photo of a Canada or USA Residence visa:
Hello all,
I am hoping someone from Canada or the USA can send me a photo of a residence visa.
As I mentioned in a previous post, we are have a ton of grief in Canada trying to get the correct visa.
In the last post I stated we were told there is no residence visa by the Vancouver consulate and told to apply for and were given a Schengen visa. $90 each
I know these are issued on arrival for free but that is what happened. We are visiting friends in Arizona now and were notified by Email or visas were in.
The last few days have been even more confusing.
I spoke to the consulate in Toronto and that person said that the Schengen visa is wrong (I already knew that) and that I need a residence visa. ( I already knew that too). I told him about the Vancouver consulate and that no one there answers the phone or Emails so he said the best he could do is Email.
Then I called the Ottawa Embassy again and the woman there told me the residence visa has Schengen on the top of it so it might be the right one. I have never seen one so I don't know if I have the correct visa.
I am scheduled to fly Vancouver again and pick up the visas in two weeks. If the visas are wrong, all booked flights are going to need to be changed. That won't be cheap!!
Is there someone on this forum who can scan or take a photo of a North American residence visa and put it up somehow for me to see?
