South Africa: Moving to SA!!:

My husband and I are moving to South Africa (just north of Johannesburg) from Canada in January 2008. I'm bouncing back and forth between feeling excited and a little terrified!! I'm a country girl who has always lived in wide open spaces and on the waterfront, where we could just open the door up to let the dogs out and/or enjoy our morning tea on the dock. This will be my first city-living experience. Can you tell me whether there are any organized events or gatherings where I (we) could meet people!? Although work will keep us both pretty busy, we'll be anxious to make new friends and get out of the house from time to time!!! Sure hope to hear from others who have had similar experiences!
