Hungary: Hefiz/Keszthely?:
Letter below is very detailed and informative. I would love being near the Lake but don't have the budget - nor would I be interested to spend it on inflated prices.
I'm in a small village 45 km from Budapest - with bus service from here and a more frequent (every half hour) bus from a nearby town. I'm over 65 so public transportation is free - I have time, so all is well.
Why do I chose to live here? Beautiful scenery, historically famous, close to the capital city and CHEAP.
A NICE lot for building is 33,000Eur, existing country homes - that you can live in while rebuild or build can be had from 40,000Eur

Just sayin' If you are willing to go outside the box, as always, you'll find what you are looking for.
Hungary: US citizen to move to HU:
:) You have to do no such thing. That is what dual citizenship is for. I made the move 18 years ago and thank God each day for having done so.
Come home, get a birth certificate then go and ask for an ID. It took my brother 3 months to get it processed.
Hungary: If you can help it use PUBLIC TRANS!:
I just think liberal voters are idiots. The price of everything is always going up - you can't be so young that you don't know that already.
Public transportation is the way to go no matter what is your status. The coverage of the city is awesome, the frequency is far superior to that of the USA, more than likely you are on rail and won't be stuck in traffic and last but not least - no problem with parking.
I never run for a public vehicle - another one will be along in minutes - too crowded? wait for the next one. Well worth the price of the monthly pass to travel without having to worry about getting up early to scrape your windows.
Hungary: return to hungary:
Hi Ildi:
Much like yourself our family left Hungary in 56. Our parents passed away, children are grown and I returned to Hungary 18 years ago.
While I am not Jewish I do attend cultural programs and hear what the community has to say.
The only people who talk about antisemitism is the left and the USA. Hungary poses a problem because Orban wishes to continue to build a healthy economy. That is not of interest to the powers that be - thus the negative press.
My neighbor is a rabbi, he claims this is one of the safest countries for Jews.
You need to be discerning when you make decisions based on the news and hearsay.
