Nicaragua: Safety in Nicaragua:

I have been here 3 months, traveled in Managua + costa Rica by myself , and feel very safe. I am 60, single , so often do things by myself. I was at the bus station by myself for an hour lat week in Managua, and very safe. I am not sure that would have happened in California, or US. I can walk here, drive carefully, and like anywhere, watch my belongings. I have never felt threatened. My experience is the Nicaraguan people are gracious, and welcome visitors , and want to take care of them.
