Portugal: Need advice moving to Portugal:

I'm sure your employer will be able to inform you of any other requirements. Please do not rely on a public forum such as this for important information.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Loadsa questions:

I would not bring a pregnant woman to Ecuador at this time due to Zika, especially along the coast. If you are serious about coming without visiting first, Ecuador would probably be your best bet among South American countries: relatively friendly and cooperative people, reasonable cost of living, and a large expat community, as you do not speak the language.

Colombia: Best health insurance?:

I would not advise anyone to drop their Medicare coverage. One never knows when they will have to return to the US someday, and the way things are going in Washington, it is much better to be already in the system. The option to rejoin may not be there in the future. Has anyone in Colombia had any experience using American insurance like BC/BS? My policy includes international coverage, with doctors and hospitals listed in the major cities who participate in the program. I have been told that you would pay upfront and then be reimbursed later.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: EU imports:

automobiles, alcoholic beverages and dairy products

Mexico: Medical insurance:

I just read a blog from a woman living in Mexico, who had a medical emergency and had to pay $12,000 dollars (not pesos) to the hospital. Apparently, they will not release you until the bill is paid. I am assuming this is a private system hospital. So, the subject of health insurance is indeed a very important topic, when one is over a certain age. Also, in the public hospitals, you need someone to stay with you like a nurse, because things are not the same as in the US. This system seems fine with ordinary things, but long term severe ailments may require to either return to the US or pay cash.

Uruguay: question about passive income:

Perhaps they would take you in as a refugee of some sort, considering the current state of Turkey. Don't let these people get you down. They think it's their job to discourage all who even consider Uruguay as a destination.

Colombia: Size queen:

is this post a joke?

Mexico: Saw another dead body tonight.:

Did you do any research at all before moving to N. Baja? I could send you some narco-related posts and pics that would curl your hair.

Mexico: Medical care over 65:

Nice to see I am not alone in wanting to flee an increasingly hostile and dangerous atmosphere in the US. Unfortunately, as members of a minority that is high up on the list of right wing targets, we have to be more aware than others. I wouldn't too much about health care in Mexico. I have noticed in my travels that most there have a great respect for older people, and my dental treatments at least have been of high quality and quite economical. Looking forward to checking out the Lake Chapala or Guadalajara areas, as well as others. Good luck to you.

Ecuador: I'm trying to figure out what to bring, and what I can get there (Cuenca):

Good news, EC signed the trade deal with the EU, so many items may be getting a bit cheaper and easier to find
