Mexico: visa:

Ericruple: If you're not old enough to collect Social Security or a monthly pension, then the only thing the consulate cares about is your average bank balance over the most recent 12 month period. For a temporary resident visa, you need to show at least $20K or more average balance in a bank or retirement account (this is for one person--I don't know about a couple). For a permanent resident visa, you need to show at least $80K average balance or more in a bank or retirement account. I know this because I'm not old enough to collect SS yet--and the consulate didn't give a hoot about the rental income I collect each month. They only cared about my average balance in a bank or retirement account for the last twelve consecutive months. Hope that helps

Mexico: Bus Travel in Mexico:

I'm spending several weeks in SMA this summer. While there, I want to take a couple of short trips: specifically: Merida, PV & Puebla. I'd like to travel first class & take the most direct routes possible. What bus line would you recommend departing from SMA for comfort & safety? ADO...or? And what's the best way to buy advance tickets? Muchas gracias...Barb,

Mexico: Effects of policies of new administration on lives of expats living in Mexico?:

Stevenlloyd: Your concerns exactly mirror mine. I started heavily researching a possible move to Mexico months before the election -- for the same reasons as you & your wife. In January, I took the first of what is to be a few exploratory trips to places I'm interested in, starting with SMA. I have upcoming trips booked to Ajijic, QRO & back again to SMA for several weeks this spring/summer. But with this alarming turn of events & the negative effects on our relationship with Mexico, I'm having serious second thoughts. Particularly that I'm no longer married & would face any potential unpleasantness on my own. I'm trying to get the same answers & predictions from current expats, sans the ugly, combative rhetoric that seems to accompany most responses. That seems the greatest challenge of all

Mexico: U.S. 800 numbers:

Thank you Ms Alex. I've been in this forum for several months now and you regularly provide such useful, important information. You're helping many more people beyond the OP. Lo agradezco!! :). Barb

Mexico: Anti-Amer.sentiment in the Riviera Maya:

Worxs... Y explícame, por favor... en que manera hacen tus palabras repugnantes ayudan a las personas que están buscando por información sobre México y la vida expat? Vayate, malparida...y quédate lejos de México (y me da mucho gusto que tú no entiendes, cabron)

Mexico: San Miguel real estate agents:

Does anyone have or know of a good real estate agent for rentals in San Miguel de Allende? I'm going to make a second trip down there soon to look. While I realize the best advice is to walk neighborhoods for "se renta" signs, the rental market there is very tight. So I'd like to work with a reputable agent who doesn't charge the "gringo price" -- if any even exist in SMA. Thanks -- Barb

Mexico: Cat food high quality in SMDA?:

Mrgnwilson: I'm still here in the States (taking many trips to find my Mexican home) but I agree with you. I stopped feeding my 11 year old cat all canned cat food (& I was buying very expensive brands) and now just give her Royal Canin dry food for sensitive digestion and a little bit of "people" canned tuna every night with fresh water everyday. Her almost-daily vomiting stopped (just an occasional normal hair ball maybe twice a month now) and the litter box smell DISAPPEARED!! Since I live in a small city condo, that was a blessing in itself!! :). But she's doing so much better now that we've eliminated the wet canned cat food. I don't care what "quality" they claim. It's crap for our cats.

Mexico: Mental Health Care in Mexico:

I've heard a lot of great things about health care for physical ailments and conditions But is there good mental health care available in Mexico? Therapists, marriage counselors, psychiatrists, etc? If so, what are the average out of pocket costs to see a mental health professional? Thanks in advance

Mexico: Gas prices and taxis:

I'm literally sitting in the TJ airport about to fly to GTO. I'm reading about the big spikes in gas prices & the ensuing protests/closures. Is anyone experiencing or aware of problems finding taxis or Uber's? Thanks.

Mexico: Medical insurance:

Claudia are the annual premium prices listed in your IMSS article in pesos or US dollars? And what does CURP stand for? Thanks -- Barb
