Ecuador Welcome Forum: Taxes in EC on US earnings:

You will pay no income tax but you will pay a 14% sales tax on anything you buy plus import taxes on a lot of things.

Nicaragua: CAR RENTAL:

ATZ you are well known as a crotchety old geezer. What a debilitating life you must have had to live. Too bad you can't find any joy in communicating in a civil manner with others.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Loadsa questions:

I would recommend Cuenca. Not as big as Quito and easier to get around in. Cool at night though and rainy at times. Not all day but afternoons during rainy season. Somewhat European in nature. Rent is very inexpensive and a lot of choices to get you away from the noise. Drivers about like New York City but not as bad as you describe. Pretty clean city and a new trolley car system is replacing a lot of diesel busses. We live in Manta which is a ocean side city. Nosier and not as clean with stuff thrown around pretty common. We don't mind that as it is warm here. 80 to 85 daytime from June till October. Upper 80,s rest of the year for day time highs. Highest temp we have seen is 95. 70 to 80 at night Spanish is the language and that takes a little getting used to. I hope that helps.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: banking:

If you are just visiting for a few weeks or even months, using your ATM card will work fine. Some US banks charge a fee of up to about ten dollars per withdrawal. They call it a charge for an international transaction. Delete repeated word uses the US dollar so no exchange problems. This is a cash country and in many cases there is a charge for using a credit card. You need ones fives and tens. You can use twenties sometimes but forget fifties or one hundreds.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: golf?:

There are four that I know of for sure. Guayaquil a private club and expensive. Quito and I don't know if it is a private club. I believe Cuenca has a 9 hole course, not real sure though. A course north east of Manta if it is still open. Monticristi which is about 15 kilo meters from Manta and it is where I play. Cost is $35 week days and $50 week ends., that includes a cart as it is a cart course with long distances between some of the holes. There are 10 to 12 of us who live in Manta and play there often on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Finally My trip to see EC:

You have a very ambitious schedule. The trip to Manta will be three to four hours each way so you probably need a over night in Manta. That is where we purchased our condo three years ago. On your return to Quito it will be difficult to go to Cuenca from there. Cotocachi=miss spelled I am sure, will be fine for a day trip from Quito. Cuenca is a long buss ride, which is cheep, or a short flight that will be about 200 round trip each. The problem with flying is if you go in the morning and come back in the evening, which I am not sure you can do,, you will have little time in Cuenca. Can be done but you will be hurried. Cuenca is a pretty good sized city of about 600,000. Best of luck. I can't give you any information on where to stay in Salinas but I know a man who is reasonably priced to give you a tour of Quito and Cotacochi= sp again but I expect you already know it is the leather town not too far from Quito. I can also give you information on where to stay in Manta and Cuenca. We spent three months in Cuenca three years ago when we were trying to decide where in Ecuador we wanted to purchase property. Since your stay in Manta would be short you could stay with us if you preferred as we have a two bedroom condo. That would save you a few dollars. Ecuador Welcome Forum: Good phones:

If you have a I Phone that is a 5 or newer from Verizon or any unlocked cell phone. All Verizon I Phones are unlocked if 5 model or newer. All you need to do is buy a Claro or Movie Star chip. Claro is about $5 and then get a plan or buy minutes if you do not want a plan.
