Ireland: Residency in Ireland?:

Yes - it is hard to get residency. We bought a house, but are only allowed to stay for a year and will have to apply to stay yearly. We just keep our fingers crossed. We are retired, but I understand getting a work permit is even more difficult.

Ireland: Wet in Ireland?:

I'm from Oregon, and it isn't any wetter here than at home. Certainly more sunbreaks here, even when it is rainy. Summers cooler here.

Ireland: Christmas in Ireland:

This will be our first Christmas here with no family. Seems like everything will be closed. What have others done to start new traditions?

Ireland: Getting Connected:

We are having a difficult time becoming part of our community. We are not churchgoers, volunteer opportunities are filled by people on various government programs, we are in a rural area with just 1 neighbor. No social groups or clubs locally that I can find. Any ideas?

Global Expat Forum: Where to Retire:

Good advice, but we wanted to have a home, not just a stopping place. We want to be residents, not visitors. I think it depends on what you are looking for. We love living here in Ireland - but no telling if they will let us stay. So we are always thinking about the next "home."
