Ecuador: English speaking dentist in Guayaquil:

Well, it turns out that "go to any major hospital there are plenty of English speaking doctors there" is hugely exaggerated. There is literally one doctor I could find in the Internet which speaks English (barely), while "go and ask" gave me no result at all. Now I need a dentist. I could find English speaking dentist in the Internet mentioned back in 2012, but this information too old to be reliable. So question is, could anyone kindly share the up-to-date contacts of the English speaking dentist?

What is the good place to go in Guayaquil to have a full medical examination (incl. full body MRI) for non-spanish speaking expat?

@jaym, it's impossible to get residential visa without visiting Ecuador. And I was guided not to bother in the local Ecuadorian embassy with the tourist one. You will get the tourist visa right in the airport (sure there are some requirements, but those are kind of soft and customs never really bother to check ones). On the other hand you can have a lot of problems dealing with any kind of helpers, consultants, `lawers` and so on. The least problem you can get, is paying a bunch of money for literally nothing. The worst one would be bad attitude from officials, as these helpers will try to mess the thing up to make the process look as complicated as possible. If you don't speak Spanish, you would want to have a random translator (the airbnb landlord did the great job for me) help for residential visa application here, but if you do, there's no need at all.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: crime & poverty:

Yes they are! They are selling the expat books. And they never show the poverty in their videos. I personally (living for a about one year and half in Ecuador) have a feeling that they are trying to present a picture in bright colors covering it with mild negative tones leaving the worst behind. This gives an impression of non-bias and they need it to maintain the book buyers inflow.

------ Also about buying bottled water --- there have been cases usually lower income areas where bottled water has been sold which was just tap water ---- make sure to find the brands of water - which are better known ---- Has been witnessing a number of times in Guayaquil the guys who are selling a bottled water for 25 cents collecting empty bottles. Also I've seen the guy filling up the bottle (a branded one) with a tap water in the public place. The lids which are used to seal those bottles are easily available to buy and there's no need in sophisticated machinery to set the lid up. The brand name worth a little around here.
