Philippines: On my search to find a Philappino Wife:

Draks, I concur. I think these people are very materialistic. It is just that they dont have the means to be so as much as they would like. They think nothing of asking you for a gift. They expect one, or at leadt ask for one to be brought home from your trip. When they do get something new, there is a damn good chance it is getting posted on Facebook for the world to see

Philippines: Waffle Box construction:

Draks, you could insulate a wood house with foam. I once read it strengthens the house by 300% due to the glue-like properties. It is sold as do-it-yourself in the U.S. and send it here balikbayan. I knew a guy who worked with it. He said it has remarkable sound-deadening too. Obviously you would want double glass windows for sound if you will spend the money for foam. An American Architect here told me it was not a good idea to build with wood due to termite infestation. I cant imagine them being worse than in Virginia.

Philippines: Balikbayan box services: US to Philippines:

I am pretty sure the b-box inspections went away. People went nuts at the proposals. The masses dont trust anyone here including neighbors. We shouldnt either

Philippines: motor vehicle:

Good post, Teejay. Many people don't realize that if a part starts wearing out it can wear out other parts with it like worn shocks or struts putting a strain on linkage. Oftentimes motor oil is changed without consideration for transmission fluid and differential. I occasionally change brake and power steering as well. I owned two new vehicles back-to-back in 27 years. The first, a 1986 Ford Ranger 4x4 lasted 215,000 miles (346000kilometers). It didn't smoke when I parked it after the crankbearings wore from often pulling a boat too heavy for the truck for years, and other over use. The second was a 2000 Ford F-150. That one had 230,000 miles when I gave it away before I came here. It didn't smoke either. Preventative maintainence is a big deal when it comes to machinery.

Philippines: Never Trust A Filipina:

Yet, how many frickin' times do you hear so many foreign dirtbags from all over the web telling the rest of us that the Philippines is paradise?

Philippines: Freight forwaders:

Daganflyer, I'll explain a little more about www.pobox.ph . What you do is set up an account. They will give you their warehouse address to send your items. You put your name above this address with you order from, say, Amazon. As soon as Amazon gives you a tracking number, log into you POBOX account and write in your orders and tracking number. They will contact you through your account by stating the items have arrived as they are delivered to the warehouse. When everything has arrived you go to a Dropbox in your account and click "Ship".

Philippines: Pollution:

Ironically, a Latino friend from Inner city New York complained about the noise after living in the suburbs of Germany. For some reason I think it must be noisier here.

Philippines: Wedding in Japan:

Right on, Draks. What would it matter if they went to the Mayor's off and had two janitors for witnesses they met 5 minutes before. The other stuff is just tradition that keeps DeBeers in business
