United Kingdom: Retiree visa for U.K.?:

My wife and I are retired American citizens living in New York City. I am trying to determine whether or not retired American citizens who have ample assets and international health insurance would be eligible to obtain a retiree/ resident visa to live in the U.K. I understand that various EU countries have such programs (France, Italy, Ireland, Spain). We have assets of in excess of $2 million so there is literally no chance we would be a burden on government resources. I have not been able to locate any official literature published on the subject. I would be grateful to know if obtaining the resident or long stay visa would be possible. Does anyone out there have any information on this? Best regards, Joe P
