Ireland: Wet in Ireland?:
I hear so much about the rain in Ireland ... Like every other conversation has something to do with rain. I don't get it ... Where exactly are these ppl who say it rains a lot from ... Arizona? In East Tennessee we get an average of about 55-60 inches a year from what I've found Dublin gets about 30 inches. I think I may be the only person to step foot on Ireland who will see less rain lol. In this part of the US our mountains are considered a temperate rainforest. We see rain almost every week. It's called the Great Smoky Mountains because clouds get trapped here and it rains and rains. The heat causes evaporation refueling the clouds again that mix with new clouds coming in from the gulf.
I welcome Irish weather. Slán
Ireland: Christmas in Ireland:
I'll be landing on Irish soil on December 15th ... Only me and my youngest son. I'm planning to spoil him silly since mom won't be joining us until well into the new year. I get sad just thinking about us all not being together on Christmas but he is only 3 so he won't notice to much. The older kids I'm sure will be sad that I'm not there but one of us had to go ahead to set up while the other lagged behind to clean up. I'm gonna be on Valentina island this Christmas ... Anyone is welcome to join in if they want lol
Ireland: Hopeful US - Ireland move:
So I've spent about 4 hrs reading this specific page as I've been researching a move from East Tennessee to County Kerry. I've read the long 250 post topic suffered by Dave and the retirement rules. I'm only 35, no where near retirement age yet. My question is how hard is it to immigrate to Ireland when you aren't at retirement age. I would love to get a work permit or even open a business in Ireland. I own 2 businesses here and I intend to operate them by satellite basically until I can sell them off. Once I do I'll either get a job or open a business of some kind. I've done a lot of researching but no matter how much you read it helps to get feedback from real people. I don't like big cities as I said i'm from East Tennessee ... I'm born and raised in the mountains so I want to live in the country. I'm from a very touristy area called Gatlinburg so I kinda wanna live in an area that is a tourist economy which is what I'm use to.
Ireland: Getting Connected:
How goes the socializing? Made any new friends yet? I find it easy to make new friends at the grocery store or hardware store. Will be interesting to see if that works as well in Ireland. I'm moving to Valentina Island and contacted the local head of development to introduce myself ... She was very kind and polite and even offered to introduce me around town. I don't think it's gonna be to hard to make friends. I think the hard part will be getting use to the food lol
Ireland: Obtaining a work visa:
I'm not Irish i'm American but ... If your saying your keeping your same job and moving into Ireland then i'm pretty sure you don't need any type of work visa. You aren't going to be employed in Ireland. You see I am American and wanted to move to Ireland but learned getting a work permit was hard .. So I contacted the Irish embassy to get info. They informed me that getting a satellite job was the easiest means to support myself while working on getting a work permit. Basically I would still work for and pay taxes on an American job but I would work from home ... Home being any where on earth that has internet. My money gets deposited into my typical bank and can be withdrawn from an ATM in Ireland.
Hope that's useful info.
