Thailand: Expats Facebook Group in Phayao:

Hi Matty - I pass through Phayao every once in a while and have always found it special though I have never spent the night. Do you know of any really nice resorts there? Thanks, Ken

Thailand: Chiang Mai:

Hot is hot. I would say the only difference with CM city is that it will be cooler in the nights and early mornings, sometimes. Noon is as hot as anywhere. Hot season is going to be hot anywhere in Thailand as well as Fla... Another downside might be the air quality during mid march when it is burning season, but you can always go away for a couple of weeks when it is bad. CM is a nice place to live, but like every place, there is good and bad.

glad to help, but have been unable to respond to private message...

Thailand: How can I get a Thai retirement visa ??:

The retirement visa requires 800,000 baht in the bank for 3 months before applying... OR there is a monthly income requirement... one or the other - please check again with the Thai consul as it seems there is a mistake unless the rules have changed recently but I think it is still the same.

Thailand: Moving to Thailand:

There are strict laws as to what foreigners can and can't do as to working in Thailand. Very few jobs qualify. The job has to be one which a Thai cannot do, such as teach English... after that, if you are brought here with a multi-national company, they will get you a work permit. If you have nothing lined up or no specific skill that a Thai cannot do, you will not be able to work. sorry, it is not easy.

Thailand: Pension:

I don't think that it matters where your money comes from as long as you meet the requirements. And you can also put the 800,000 baht in the bank. It must remain there for 3 months prior to getting your retirement visa and then can be withdrawn after. Check your local Thai Consulate for details. There is a lot of flux lately on visas but retirement visa has remained constant..

Thailand: Moving to Buriram:

Not sure I understand this, but hiring workers is the same anywhere and will require your presence here. Your post prompts more questions than answers. Do you speak Thai? What kind of workers are you looking for? In Buriram, ordinary labor will not speak English. Do you know all of the difficulties and paper work and expenses involved in setting up a business here and that it is illegal for foreigners to work w/o work permit?

Thailand: retiring Thailand:

Hi Beth - A friend just sent me a brochure for an assisted living place in Chiang Mai. It looked quite nice and was reasonably priced with good facilities. This is a relatively new field here and there seem to be more places opening. Contact me if you want more info.

Thailand: Shippnig a dog to Thailand:

Actually, it gets quite cold in a cargo bin at that altitude... it does not sound like a pleasant trip for a dog, but people do ship them...
