Colombia: Half and half:

100% expats (men) love the Colombian girls....

Ecuador: "The Great Guest Mentality!":

@windshadow, To make the subject more interesting, please provide examples of situations where the "thought of being a guest" made you change your mind, and also tell us what would you have done if you were not a guest in those situations. Thanks.

Colombia: Project FI by Google:

@Maximoto, Don't give up on the project FI. Just because people on this forum have not used it that does not mean it does not work. Google is not a small company that would lie about a feature like this. According to Google you will have coverage in 135 countries and Colombia is one of them. Good luck!

Colombia: TAX OR NO TAX?:

@Visitando, May I ask how long have you been living in Colombia? Have you filed and pay no taxes? There should be at least someone who filed taxes that can attest to those theories.

Colombia: Medellin vs. Cali: Internet, Food Items, Transportation:

Can somebody clarify what does "wifi" mean in this context? Are we talking about public "wifi" hotspots? Or, just ISP provided internet?

Colombia: Retirement in Colombia: the decision-making process:

I am with @stillkicking on this one. One reason for that is the potential expat has not fully convinced himself of the potential move. Those questions are really a cry for help. Please convince me not to go, please tell me it's a bad idea. It's like somebody standing on a ledge of a building yelling he is going to jump... When someone is leaving a poorer country, or a country with political instability, or a country recently stricken by natural disaster, the move is easy. But, when you are leaving a perfectly good country behind, you better have a good reason to do so. Removing the questions pertaining to the logistics of the actual moving to country X, all the remaining questions can truly be answered by living in that country. It is very difficult to have a spreadsheet and a formula to come up with a "Go/No Go" conclusion. Again, the common wisdom across all the sub-forums on this site is to rent first, which means, do not unpack your bags until you are sure the place can become your new home. Frankly, I would just flip a coin. Head = "go", Tail = "no go".

Ecuador: Is smoking cigarettes common for a Ecuador teenager?:

This is interesting! OP's question seems simple enough. Most normal people would interpret "smoking cigarettes" as "smoking tobacco", that's one. Second, two senior contributors said "NO". One other "Je ne sais quoi" contributor, said "Yes". Claiming the kids don't even smoke cigarettes, they smoke cigars. Now, if you are new to this site, who should you believe?

Colombia: What you like and don't like in Medellin:

With this level of pollution, why is Medellin still being pushed by many magazines as a retirement city? In selecting a place to retire, a lot of factors can be considered subjective, pollution is not one of them. Pollution is just "bad".

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Ecuador Welcome Forum - UPPER FORUM: RULES:

Hi Susan, In my humble opinion, dividing the forum in two is very distracting. I think you should have one forum with the "Upper forum rules". Right now, it is implied that "anything goes" in the lower forum. This type of setting can have an unfortunate outcome to your forum. For example, the "Upper Forum" becomes very boring, where members are afraid to challenge each other. It is in those challenges that usually comes the real truth. Yes, those challenges must be done in a respectful manner. I have noticed a few posters view a challenge to their opinion as a personal attack, and that's wrong. It just means that the poster needs to bring more facts to the table. As for the bottom forum, there is no need to describe its fate. Potential visitors to your site will stay away. I am pretty sure you want to attract more "new" visitors. My plea to you is to have "One Forum" with an enforced "Upper forum rule". Thank you.

Ecuador: So long and thanks for all the fish:

I have to say OP has a good sense of humor. There is really no need to announce that you are living. Just do not visit the site if you have no additional needs. OP's post only intent was to stir some rantings. This type of forum is not being used properly. It is supposed to be a place where people interested in living abroad come to look for information, a place where people already living abroad come to volunteer their experience. It is supposed to operate like a revolving door, the people who got help from the site, become the new volunteer experts, and the old volunteers fade away... Why should you stress over somebody's comment? Most people here are anonymous users. Feel free to visit the site from time to time, and contribute if you have the answer to a question. As the French would say, Adieu!!
