Nicaragua: Utility Theft:
I Understand your Frustration Long Hammer. I grew up in Nicaragua and Have been living In North America for Quite some time but, The one thing that hasn't changed is what a neighbord is... I have always been able to Communicate and build a friendship and in some cases strong bond with most of my neighbors. I have a feeling that there's more to your story that we are missing. A simple meeting with your neighbor to discuss your frustration and lack of respect from him/her for not borrowing your hose might stop the problem. If Not? at least He/She would know that you are on to them. Getting a pit bull also works in some cases. ;) Good Luck!
Nicaragua: Esteli for the non Spanish speaking Gringo:
MelvinKelvin's Review is very spot on and helpful.
All I can add is to not be discuraged from Visiting Nicaragua, Local's are very nice and Welcoming and embrace Foreigners from different Cultures. That's what I experienced when I lived there and when I visit now. Language will come, Quicker than you can imagine, Especially if you find yourself a Lady friend. ;) I've been to Grand and Esteli and are perfect choices climate wise for expat.
Nicaragua: How's the night life in Managua??:
Is there any good entertainment in Managua? I was there about 6 years ago and went to a couple of Clubs/ Discos and it was fun. Do not recall the names but it was at carretera Sur, If I'm not mistaken. One was connected to a Casino and also had another room for Karokee. I also heard of Zona Hipo, is that still open? And Can somebody please recommend some good restaurants to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner to avoid the high cost of Hotel Restaurant since I will be traveling there soon. Thank You soo much in advance. I Love this website, It is very informative for people that like to travel.
Nicaragua: CAR RENTAL:
I second what Englishvinal said.
I had a seminar experience after many years of living abroad and returning to Nicaragua. I hired a friend of a friend with a taxi and gave him I believe it was $200 US. for a week but he drove me every where I asked him to and when ever I needed him. Late at night as well.... I rented a car the first few days before I went with him and it was a bad idea. Not only was expensive but, You truly need a "Diving in Nicaragua for Dummies Manual" Cause you will encounter many problems believe me, Police usually know when you are a foreigner and driving a rental car, with rental plates, They need to make their monthly quater and you will be the perfect victim to Stop and ask for a "Carnadita" What does a Carnadita mean? It's when an traffic officer stop you close to the end of the week for an Infraction that Is Not really an Infraction, I which case, Try a $20 US. and that will get you off without turning in or losing your driver license for 2 or 3 weeks. In Countries like Us and Canada this Could get you in Jail. In Nicaragua, This will get you to the Beach, Church,Mall,Airport on time. ;)
Be smart and do your research, finding someone local trustworthy and Reliable is the way to go. Good Luck!
Nicaragua: Any Suggestions on Accomodation in Managua for Easter Week?:
Hello Everyone, Hope you had some nice Navidades and some Happy soon approaching New Year!!
I Need some help if you guys could please... Although my handle name is "4evernica" I'm a bit distant from Nicaragua since I live up North and have close to No relatives left in Nicaragua and that's the reason why I'm looking for some assistance from your expertise.
I'm planning a Visit to Managua for the Easter week. possibly arriving on the 14th of April. Plane ticket is taken care of but, need some suggestions on a Clean and resonably priced Hotel in the heart of Managua. I Checked out a few websites such as Expedia, Kayak, Hot wire but prices are pretty high. I looked at Hotel Intercontinental and it shows that it's around $230 to $250 US Dollars per night. I find that a bit ridiculous since I can find a Hotel Downtown New York, Miami, Toronto and Montreal for Cheaper than that. Am I Checking out the Wrong websites? What am I missing? I Would like a nice hotel with good service and Not something Run Down . I'm a bit flexible with location but hoping for something at least 4 stars. Thanks in advance.
