Spain: Visa type for property buyer:
My Partner and I would like to purchase a home in Spain. It will be our second home while we continue to live and work in Atlanta, GA. About a year later, we want to move to our Spanish home full time, rent out our Atlanta house, and live in Spain. We will quit our Atlanta jobs and become self employed in Spain owning/operating a bar.
My Partner, Christi, does not want to buy property until we have a VISA. So what type of visa do we get? Before we buy the property we will have a good amount of cash, such that we would qualify for the non-lucrative visa. But after we buy the property, we will spend 80% of that cash on the purchase. So the plan is to still have some money saved up, move to Spain, use most of that cash to open the bar and then get income from the bar. So what is the best timing to apply for the VISA, what kind of VISA, and will the renewal of the VISA after one year cause problems when we are business owners and don't have all that money saved up anymore?
Her biggest fear is that we will have spent most of our life savings on buying a house/Bar in Spain, and not getting VISAs at all or not getting them renewed and either never be legally allowed to open that Bar or later on being kicked out or "illegal".
I have not really seen this addressed, so I am hoping one of you all can share your thoughts.
Thanks so much!
Denise
