Mexico: Electrical:
So many details we don't know:
What are the electrical outlet needs?
Someone mentioned earlier to bring high quality surge protectors, so that got me wondering.
Do we need foreign adapters?
Mexico: Adapting to warmer weather: Coming from Alaska:
We are coming to PV in May on our fact finding trip. We're 99.9% gonna move to PV.
Here's my really stupid question:
We can adapt to the warmer weather during the day time and want to acclimate. BUT, I'm sure the nights are going to give us some trouble. We want to steer clear from air conditioners, as this will delay, if not warp the adaptation to warmer weather.
Was thinking about buying a cooling mattress pad to help us sleep.
Given we come from Alaska.
Any helpful feedback?
Mexico: Fact-Finding: PV neighborhood searches, cel phones, taxis:
It seems that those who are looking to move to PV have a lot of general questions. The responses have been invaluable. We are grateful.
We are going to go to as many ex-pat 'meet n greet' gatherings as we can in the 2 1/2 weeks in PV in May. BUT, just a little extra help with these questions: A few more specific questions for our trip in May:
1. Cell phones: Telcel has been recommended.
Do we bring our phones down or do we buy phones and the connect with Telcel?
2. PV Neighborhood search:
Will stay in PV, but want to check out outlying neighborhoods in which to rent long term:
Which is more useful/smarter/safer, etc: using local cabs to take us around, or rent a car,
(Is GPS available, necessary or even practical?)
3. Home hunting-rent. Another visit to PV in September or October for nailing down the neighborhood, and hopefully a home.
We will move in December-17/January-18. Renting will be our choice, as recommended by all.
AND, 'boots to the ground', word of mouth, shopping market bulletin boards have been recommended to find reputable places to lease.
And, will steer clear of less-than-reputable real estate folks. We will follow these recommendations.
Are there specific markets we should frequent to find potential homes to rent (HOME: apt., condo, house, bungalow, villa, casa, etc)?
Is it safe to rent from citizens, or do we learn through word of mouth?
Is negotiating a final rental agreement appropriate, expected, considered rude?
We want to respect local customs but not get 'snookered'.
Thanks all!
Mexico: Visiting PV in May: fact finding for retirement:
My husband and I are coming to PV this May to scope out the community for retirement. Our plan is to retire the end of 2017. We currently live in Alaska. We would love to meet some ex-pats over drinks or dinner to learn more from a personal perspective. This forum has been more than helpful and actually convinced us that PV should be on the top of our relocation list. We will be in PV for about 2 1/2 weeks the first half of the month. Any suggestions on places to stay, while visiting? A specific neighborhood to get the feel of that locale?
Mexico: Taxes on 401k withdrawals and Social Security?:
Excellent perspective. Thanks for sharing.
