Dominican Republic: Just starting out:

Hello kimberly3714 1. The Dominican Republic and surrounding areas has minor tremors on a weekly basis ranging from 3 to ocasionally 4 on the Richter scale. Larger earthquakes typically occur once every several years. Construction standards in the DR have been set in place to withstand earthquakes of above 7. Tsunamis are almost unheard of in the DR. The last one occuring in the 1940's which only affected the community of Nagua on the north coast. 2. Internet is very good from larger cities. One can purchase speeds of up to 100 MB/s via fiber optics for a home/personal connection. (Available in Santo Domingo and some other cities). Larger speeds are available for business. I personally worked remotely from the DR for many years. 3. Many private school are accredited by US accrediting associations. For these US-accredited school tuitions range from US 5K - 12k per child. Prices vary depending on grade. These schools can be found in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Sosua and Punta Cana. 4. The cost of health care in the DR is less than 25% or more in comparison to the US. Health insurance is also inexpensive.

Luperon is another small town with some expats on the north coast. It's about one hour drive west of Puerto Plata. There is a large bay there.

Dominican Republic: Moving to DR:

I live in Santo Domingo. There are more activities to do in this city than in all other cities combined. You can do and find anything you would find in any major US city in Santo Domingo.

Dominican Republic: Guarantor for visa application:

The authorized provider of the insurance are the following companies: 1. COMERCIAL DE SEGURO 2. SEGURO PATRIA 3. DOMINICANA SEGURO

Dominican Republic: Relocating with Kids:

The Bella Vista neighborhood is very good. It's close to the largest park in Santo Domingo (Parque Mirador). There are also several English and bilingual schools in the area.

Dominican Republic: Bella Vista, National District:

I live in Bella Vista. I really enjoy being able to go to the park to exercise. Its a very safe neighborhood. I would just not walk at night time, but I would not walk at night in any neighborhood.
