My husband and I are considering exploring Loreto as a possible location for retirement. Seeking conversation with others who live in, nearby or have recently lived in Loreto. The most recent posts about this city appear from several years ago. Would love to hear more recent comments. Ben.

Mexico: Hello Loreto!:

I don't see any recent entries into this site. Is there anyone looking at this? My husband and I are looking to explore Loreto as a possible site to retire, at least part time and I would like to converse with someone about the area. thanks, Ben

Mexico: catering:

Does anyone know of someone who could cater a dinner for a small party of 6? We are looking for an authentic traditional Mexican food.

Mexico: Cake!:

We will be vacationing in San Juan Cosala early this Dec. One of our group will be celebrating a birthday. Any suggestions for a bakery in the area that can provide a birthday cake?

Mexico: San Luis Soyutlan:

From youtube videos this looks like an interesting side trip. Any input or suggestions regarding where to have lunch there? Also, Mizamitla looks like a nice day trip. Has anyone been there?

Mexico: restaurant suggestion:

We will be vacationing Lakeside this Dec. We are staying in San Juan Cosala in the Racquet Club area and exploring all the villages. Can someone suggest a couple restaurants where we can experience "authentic cuisine" not just "gringoized" food? We are looking for nice restaurants, but not fancy, casual and middle priced. Thanks for all suggestions

Mexico: Intestinal problems:

I am organizing a vacation trip for several couples to the Lake Chapala area. I am aware we should use Microdyn to wash our produce and use bottle water for drinking. My question is what is the best remedy for Montezuma's Revenge should all our careful actions still result in a problem.

Mexico: Hotel in GDL:

To all the good people who have been advising me on my first pending trip Lakeside. We will be leaving GDL on a very early flight post vacation Lakeside. I think it would be easier to stay overnight near the airport the night before. Does anyone have recommendations for hotels very near the airport. We will need to be at the airport in the "wee hours" the next morning. My many thanks beforehand. We are very much looking forward to our Dec. visit/exploration. BenG

Mexico: Restaurant suggestions:

Thanks for the suggestions in San Juan Cosala. We plan on exploring all along the lakeside towns and I would be interested in learning of a couple restaurants in other towns. I know there are hundreds, but everyone has favorites and I like exploring "hole in the wall" type places. BenG

Mexico: taxi from the airport to Ajijic:

Can someone tell me the approx. cost of a taxi for two people from the airport in Guadalajara to central Ajijic?

Mexico: GDL to San Juan Cosala:

What is the current rate for taxi from GDL airport to the San Juan Cosala Racquet Club or nearby? I have one offer from the rental management co. of $80 US.

Mexico: Driver/Guide Lake Chapala:

Thanks Cosumeldeb

Mexico: Fish and Water and etc.:

Thank you for the very useful info.

Mexico: Retiring to Ajijic questions:

Thank you. I have never heard of Olive leaf extract.

Mexico: BenG/COL:

I am hoping to retire at least part year to the lakeside area and soon. My hope is to maintain stateside home and live several months lakeside. So, my question is can two people live with some comfort on $2k to $2.5k per month including rent. I would hope to find a 2bd/2ba house or condo.. Am I totally in fantasy land?

Mexico: Trial visit to Lake Chapala:

Hi Elizabeth; Thanks for the input. I had considered the same seminar, but people online told me I could easily get all their info without the cost. I still have not decided and I would appreciate your input regarding the seminar when you return stateside, so please keep my email address. I will check out the web board you suggest. I have been researching the various communities. Though Ajijic may be the center of action lakeside, I am afraid it may be too busy, noisy, touristy. We hope to be in the area for several weeks late Nov. – Dec. and will explore from one end to the other. I am curious about Jocotepec as I am told it is less “gringoized”. Also, I believe it is more affordable. Initially we will maintain our stateside home, so I am thinking we will try to live on about $2k to $2.5k / mo. I hope I am being realistic this will be enough for a modest lifestyle with a few perks. Please stay in touch and hope you enjoy your July visit. I am anxious to get there myself. Ben

Mexico: Effects of policies of new administration on lives of expats living in Mexico?:

Dear Ramzfan; I liked what you said about people "going off the deep end" regarding their politics This is one reason more people are losing faith, belief in USA. So sad you had to negate your own point by then making a comment about some "far out" Bernie supporters. Don't you think there are people of the same mind who follow some other politician or party?

Mexico: Seminars:

We are exploring the possibility of relocating lakeside for our retirement. Hopefully this will happen within this year. Has anyone had experience with any of the seminars offered to introduce people to retiring to the area? One I have learned of is "Retiring Lakeside in Mexico" and another is offered through Focus on Mexico. This one is much more expensive but I don't know if it is much better. Thanks for your input and ideas Ben G
