Mexico: interested in Hermosillo:
If I'm not mistaken, that is prime drug cartel country. Careful driving on Highway 15, especially at night.
Portugal: Recommendations for books to learn Portuguese?:
Here's a neat site that has the old State Dept. language courses. The best part: they are free! Includes text and tapes to download.

Portugal: thoughts:
Anti-Americanism is strong and growing all over the world (with good reason). Knowing that half of these people probably voted or support Fascist Leader Agent Orange, I would stay far away from their enclaves.
Portugal: Address for Visa:
A short term rental should be easy to set up on Air bnb, etc. Then when you move into long term housing you give the authorities your new address.
Ecuador: So long and thanks for all the fish:
Moving to a foreign land may not be the best option for you right now.
Mexico: Anti-Amer.sentiment in the Riviera Maya:
If you are in the US now, you know that it is not just hysterical rantings but fact. That is unless you support the Nazi in Chief. btw Immigrants to Mexico should be extremely nervous, especially if Agent Orange makes good on his threat to invade.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: Expats to Mexico?:
Very well written and thoughtful. I have never understood the desire to move to a foreign country and surround yourself with people, language and culture that you left behind. Why move? Because it is cheaper? As for Mexico, there seems to be an underlying resentment that is slowly building toward gringos. I wonder sometimes how long their "wonderful" existence will last in their adopted land. Of course, this may be true in all of Latin America and South America. I sense that Ecuadorians beneath the surface resent the presence of so many that choose to lord their wealth and privilege and band together in their own bubble away from the struggle and grind of everyday poverty. I'm not sure if I could make that moral choice.
Portugal: Pre-existing conditions and Pt health insurance:
Bcbs will cover you coverage worldwide, at least my policy will. They have a website that gives you a list of approved doctors and hospitals. You need to pay first and then get reimbursed by bcbs, unless the hospital has a special arrangement worked out before hand. Cigna quoted me $350 a month, yikes.
