Italy: Storage Units in Rome:

We will be arriving in Rome with 10 suitcases. We need to put about 8 of these in storage in or near Rome, and we also need transportation from the airport to the storage. Any suggestions?

Italy: Rental contract as permesso di soggiorno requirement:

We're in a a catch-22. In order to have the paper work submitted to apply for a permesso di soggiorno, they want a minimum of a 1-year contract on a rental (or evidence of buying property). But, we are not sure where we want to live for a year, and if we were denied we'd have to break our lease and probably lose several thousand. Anybody crossed this bridge before?

Italy: Income Requirement, permesso di soggiorno:

RE: "what do I need in order to gain residency in Italy?" We went to the Italian Consulate yesterday in Montevideo, UY. We have obtained our residency card in UY. The income requirement appears rubbery and subjective. First, they pegged the income at $6,000 USD per couple. Yesterday they said they would submit pension income of less than half of this. He said $3`1,000 per year per couple. He wanted to see bank statements with the monthly deposit, but also was fine with a benefit award letter from my pension fund. Tax documents are not accepted. BUT, the kicker is a rental or property. He said at a minimum we needed a year's rental contract, before we set foot in the country, Or evidence that we are buying property. But, then the paperwork is simply submitted, not guaranteed to be OK. So you could front a lot of money that you'd end up losing.

Uruguay: Moving to Uruguay in the future:

Don't bring a car or motorcycle here. It just isn't worth it. Might be good to put most of your stuff in storage and come here for six months and look around before shipping anything or deciding to buy. Difficult to find good housing here that's well-constructed unless you are shopping in the half-million and up range. Even then, windows and roofs leak and potential for many problems.
