Italy: Thanks for being a class-act and helping.:

Please all of you on this forum, know that I 'lurked about' on this group for about 2 weeks before I posted any questions. For my part, the recent question/s posted by another new potential expat - though obviously frustrating to several of you - was what drew me to engage and ask my questions. It also reminded me to be clear in any background and specific in my questions - and to not roll them all into 1 gob. So, know that you impressed me with your intent to be of help. Thanks for your kind and helpful assistance, once we're back in Italia and we update our knowledge, we'll be joining the group on the your side of the table - the side that knows current stuff and is willing to share.

Italy: Taxes to bring in Electronic/Digital Devices:

When we last lived in Italy (2001-09), we worked in IT, and when doing hardware upgrades on 100's of computers/servers and we found the import taxes to be amazingly high. We're now intending to return to Italy, and will be bringing *personal* tablets/phones/etc. - is there a tax on these?

Italy: Italian Driver's license:

When we last lived in Italy (supporting the US Military), we were able to 'cover' our US Driver's license with a general international one from AAA. How hard is it to get one without any connection to the US? We're not shipping an auto, but would like to occasionally rent a car.

Italy: Codice Fiscale # lost.:

We had Codice Fiscale # when we last lived in Italy (US citizens supporting the US Military) several years ago. We can't find them in our paperwork now - how hard is it to find them online or will the Italian Consulate in LA, CA be able to find them - this is where we'll file for our Visa. We know we need them for lease documents.

Italy: Guidance on Banks/ATM's/paying recurring bill in US:

We're preparing to return to live in Italy and become residents. We have access to banking privileges on US Military bases OCONUS - but it will be 1.5 hrs to/from base. We have several US homes, and have separated funding for those homes & our daily activities by using different banks & credit unions so it's easier to track. We are considering consolidating these accounts into fewer 'buckets' so they can accessed quicker/easier. We have lived in Italy (8 years) in support of the US Military, and we know that ATM's will not give (or did not give previously) US account balances, and that we'll probably have slow internet access there. Any guidance or other ideas?
