google translate app is what you need.. but it is not very good beyond a sentence at a time.. it does have off line use.. for typing and reading.. but audio requires internet... to have internet.. you need a dongle.. with a chip in it.. you can get it from claro.. once you reach ecuador... and change your phone sim card to a claro and then turn the phone into a hot spot.. the problem is.. if you take your phone an dongle out in large cities.... or some places.. you are likely to have it stolen out of your hand... so this is not like being in the usa.. where everyone everywhere has money to own dongles and good size smart phones. also there isn't internet except in the places where there is cell phone coverage.. and a lot of ecuador is still rural.. and you will not have cell or internet for gps, nav or internet..... you better have a quest vest to put your valuables in so you don't have a bag that can be ripped out of your hands.. and you better have a throwaway phone that you can give up should you get held up... don't fight someone who wants your stuff.
